Those last four could go any way. I have them like I do because Fred, while doing some great things, hasn't sustained it and hasn't taken it to another level yet. I have Johnny where I do simply because he didn't reach the pinnacle the other guys did. Like I said, you can have 1-3 at 1 and I won't argue. When I look at it, I guess I don't know how you put Fred at anywhere but 4 at this point. Like you said, in ten years the story could really change.

The bottom 2 are easy - Wayne and Greg.

The top 4 could go anyway, but hard not to put Johnny at the top. Fred would be where he is without Johnny and Hilton Magic, which Johnny created!

Larry got to an Elite 8 and Floyd got to a Sweet 16. Fred has one NCAA Tournament win. A little perspective please...

Fred could leap-frog Tim depending on the next couple years. And if he wins a Conf title in the next couple years, he probably goes right to the top for me.

1 Orr- built something from nothing
2 Floyd- carried on that idea and set us up for great years
3a Fred- still learning, but has had great early success after coming in with a bare cupboard
3b Larry-used Floyd's talent, but still brought in solid peices like tinsley, Horton. 2 GREAT seasons, which might give him a slight edge. Can't decide though.

4 Wayne decent years in 04,05. Underachieved big time with blalock and Stinson's jr years.

5 McDermott- wasnt a great fit and didnt know how to use players to their skill sets.

I would put Fred above Larry because Fred didn't cause the implosion of ISU basketball and embarrass the program nationally.
Yes, I know, Larry won back to back conference titles.

1. Johnny - winning % not as high as others, but hard to discount his legacy
2. Larry - Good coach, probably great if not for personal issues
3. Fred - He's doing good and he's so green. Wait til he gets 5+ years under his belt
4. Floyd - Not sure how long he could have kept it up
5. Morgan - Had some good players, but cleaerly not HC material
6. ***** - Had some GREAT players, really found ways to lose.

*edit Interesting that it censored #6. Probably a story behind a word that rhymed with McBudd.???

I think Wayne deserves way more credit for what he did in year one after the offseason BS that went down and keeping that team together than what he is getting from many of you. His second year was about on par with last season (year two for Fred). To rate Greg better is just silly. Remember, Wayne's last season, the one people give him so much crap for was still a winning season, something Greg never was able to do in Ames. Additionally, Greg either failed his duties to his employer (ISU) in pushing his son away from Ames while still working for ISU or failed to recognize the talent. I, my opinion, lean towards the first as we saw what he did day one in his new job at CU.

It will be interesting to revisit this in 3 years and see what Fred is able to do. I'm really pleased with what he's done in almost 3 years!!!

6. Greg

1. Eustachy with Tinsley
2. Floyd
3. Hoiberg
4. Orr
5. McDermott/Morgan/Eustachy without Tinsley

1. Eustachy with Tinsley = by far the best
2. Floyd -> probably the most consistency
3. Hoiberg -> Orr (locking down the home court) with road wins sprinkled in
4. Orr -> Great inside Hilton, terrible outside Hilton
5. Morgan, McDermott, Eustachy without Tinsley -> Just awful basketball.

It depends on what you are ranking them for. If it's "who has done more for ISU", then it's:

1- Orr (built the program from ground up)
2- Hoiberg (because he resurrected us from a horrible nightmare)
3- LE (Elite 8 **should have been NC)
4- Floyd (temporary stop on his way to somewhere better)
5- Morgan (NCAA appearance, and NIT)
6- Gmac

If it's "who would you chose to coach your team for 1 season" then it's:

1- LE
2- Floyd
3- Orr
4- Hoiberg (still very young)
5- Gmac
6- Morgan
