no, but i dislike my insurance company. i have to pay a "membership" for the privilege of buying their overpriced insurance. at least with costco my membership gets me reduced costs on goods.

we can't switch for family reasons.

Well there's your problem. If a company is raising rates nationally to cover increases in portions of its coverage area, if that goes on too long a more local insurance company may come in and undercut them. But people have to be willing to switch for that to happen.

Tropical Storm Jose' has formed in the central Atlantic, near where Irma began. His forecast path is expected to brush the Leeward Islands, but then turn north and not be a threat to any other land (aside from possibly Bermuda).

THEN, tropical depression 13 has formed in the Bay of Campeche (Mexico). That system is forecast to become a tropical storm, but turn into the Mexican coast fairly quickly.

We certainly are in the peak time of year for tropical systems.

did they tell you that you're paying the same as someone in a flood/hurricane/earthquake zone? Because I'd imagine they pay higher rates yet. If insuring houses is costing more across the country, insurance rates will go up. That's kinda how they do business.

Wouldn't this be the introduction to Insurance 101 (if that were a course)?

My in-laws like to go on cruises this time of year because they are cheap (this year they decided to go to the NE instead). I remind them why they are so cheap and sooner or later their luck will run out. Pretty sure mother nature is just laughing at me right now.

An uncontrollable 200-mile wide rip saw blade over-hyped? Only if you don't live in its path.

Yeah, right now the question seems to be 'will this **** florida, or will it buzz the east coast and slam into north carolina.

My cousin lives on a 42' sailboat docked at Marathon. They spent Sunday taking the sails off and the navigation equipment off the mast. This morning they were taking it to the mooring field (first come first serve). She's been through a few of these; so I know enough not to bother her until we are on the other side of the storm.

I don't own a boat so I could be 100% wrong with this, but I thought in storms you take your boat out to sea away from land?
