Fareway's layout sucks. I don't like being funneled into the produce section. Then, it's awkward to try to exit Fareway if you decide not to purchase anything.

These are really weird reasons to not like a grocery store.

Fareway will take a packaged ham you grabbed from the case and cut it in dinner slices for free. Even when our Hy-Vee still had a serviceable meat counter, they would not do this.
I worked in the deli at the Valley West store back in like 2013-15 and people would bring their packaged ham halves over to us to slice, even though the the packaged meat was part of the meat department, and they refused to cut it out of pure laziness and not wanting to clean their slicer, so we were forced to do it in the deli for free, because the cUstOmeR iS aLwAyS rIghT

I don’t like Fareway much because their selection sucks, they’re not open late or on Sunday and they have the highest percentage of check writing grannies because the kids will carry the groceries for them.

I have only when they were sold out of Magnums.

Next time they are out just buy a candy bar. Then at the check out line when they go “did you find everything ok?” you can tell them about the magnums.

Hy-Vee brats are the shizzle. Nothing else even compares.

For all else, Fareway.

I love the Fareway Philly brats. My husband loves the Dutch Apple ones but apple in the brat just seems weird. Fareway brat patty is twice as big as Hy-Vees and costs less

I like them both... and Aldi's too. I'm old and just go wherever the wind takes me that day.

The "Aisles Online" people do bug the crap out of me though. I'm sittin' behind 12 grannies to get my tomato soup, I don't need to wait for some teeny bopper (YES I SAID "teeny bopper") shopping for some online lard ass clogging the whole aisle while staring at a phone. She just has to text 3 more people before you can buy some soup.

Obligatory: "Get off my lawn!"

With the new HyVee in Grimes we have our pick of HyVee, Fareway, Aldi or Walmart. I find myself shopping at Fareway the least.

That's my area as well and it's probably:

Hy-Vee
Aldi
Fareway
Wal-Mart

Although that's from someone that just goes in for a few things. If I had to do a full shop it would be.

Hy-Vee
Fareway
Wal-Mart
Aldi

Aldi has some good things and the one in Grimes is nice but just a very limited selection. I'm struggling with Wal-Mart and Fareway, it's really close and really depends if I need something specific. For delivery, I would choose Wal-Mart every time but my stubborn wife won't give up on HV.

Listen dude, I'm scheduled until 8pm in the meat department, which means I need to clean the slicer and spray down the rest of the room by 7:30pm. Not my problem :) My suggestion would have been "Meat department to the deli for customer assistance" (if it's before 8pm).

Once the pandemic hit we did all online ordering from HyVee until Aldi started offering it. Aldi online pickup kicks HyVee’s butt. Most of the time you only have to place 3 hours lead time time, many times is ready early, checkin on your phone and they are out within 5 minutes. They do charge $2 for an order pickup fee but big whoop, everything is still the normal cheap Aldi prices. Not once have we had broken eggs from Aldi (Hy-Vee literally half the time we had a broken egg or two in our carton).

All in all, I don’t see us returning to traditional grocery shopping for a while if ever. Aldi order pickup is a major timesaver especially with two kids under 2.

I don't dislike Fareway. But their layout sucks.

Our HyVee routes people through the Produce area first. And the Aldi’s that I been to have produce first as well. Not sure what you are complaining about.

Yeah, there are a few things that I only get at HyVee. The bacon cheddar brats, Breaded tenderloins from the meat counter, HyVee cottage cheese, blueberry muffins.
