How is what the WCC does different from the big 12?
I think that is a little over the top. Could you imagine if the tournament is at one site having to be in town for 6 days for a 10 team tournament? I don't think fans would necessarily like that.

I certainly have watched way more of these small conferences the last few days than I have all year. It's all relative of course but I would guess that for the smaller conferences those conference tournaments are their biggest source of TV revenue all year. Conferences that might be on espn+ if theyre lucky for their regular season games find their way onto the main linear networks
I’ve always said the tournament format screws the small schools that worked hard to win their league but I guess the revenue is too big to pass up.
I went to the First B1G Tournament Championship and semi-finals @ Chicago.The B1G didn’t have a tournament until 1998
I like it! I think there should be two teams from every conference: The Regular Season Champion and the Tournament Champion (in which the Regular Season Champion does not play). So, Kansas would already have one bid, and the other 9 teams would play in KC for the 2nd bid. Eliminate all the garbage bids AND give the other conferences an equal chance. My impractical but unique bracket idea once upon a time was to give regular season winner a bid, tourney winner a bid, and if you won both a bye. Pure chaos that just wouldn't work.
I may have been under the influence.
Major difference is 1 and 2 teams are advanced to semifinal round, 3 & 4 to quarterfinal. The "front end" of 8v9 and 7v10 is identical.
Rather than try to explain it entirely, here's a visual.

I think it’s a great format and one that should be utilized in footballAn outcome of top seeds losing early was the creation of the single bye / double bye / triple bye tournaments. This makes it more difficult for a lower seeded team to eliminate a top seed early. I honestly wouldn't be surprised to see the Big XII adopt similar to what the B1G has if we expand to 16 teams.
I don't think Gonzaga needs protecting in that conference...This is known as the “Protect Gonzaga” bracket method.
The B1G didn’t have a tournament until 1998
But it's the most fun money grab of all!Money grab.
I see baseball as the same way. If a team plays 162 games and comes out on top then they should go to the World Series
Everything else is a money grab.
Not really, but it all but removes the chance of them losing to a bad team and hurting their seed line. My understanding is that Gonzaga was pretty adamant about using this format.I don't think Gonzaga needs protecting in that conference...
