I am 45. I get the sense Juicy Wiggle is what people my age imagine the kids would think is cool.
I think this is a pretty popular opinion. Such a strange choice to play it at that time. Also, I’m sure I’ll get roasted for this, but play the Bells of Iowa State some other time instead of right before the football game. Good lord that’s a buzzkill. Basketball is smart by putting it at the end when most are already on the way out.
Not to mention, the campanile looks like a penis when the band lines up on the field in that formation.
I'm pretty sure that every road football game I have attended has included the band playing the Alma Mater as part of pregame. This is a very common college football tradition.I think this is a pretty popular opinion. Such a strange choice to play it at that time.
Not when I was in band. We always played it AFTER the game.I'm pretty sure that every road football game I have attended has included the band playing the Alma Mater as part of pregame. This is a very common college football tradition.
I don't mind the song and it definitely works at football games. But the dance the students do is painful to watch.I can't stand the Juicy Wiggle or whatever it is.
Is this no longer a thing? It had some real momentum 6-7 years ago.We can antagonize ourselves again with, Whatcha gonna do ISU?
Rock Chalk Jayhawk is one of the coolest traditions in sports. But you're right, it doesn't seem as prominent as it used to be. I don't remember hearing it once this season.Let me really upperdecker this post with this take:
I...O..W...A...
Is really solid when done right, especially when it's extended through an entire drive.
In basketball the ominous Phog Allen chant is great, but don't hear it as much these days.
And "you can't do that." Straight out of the high school student section.I'd be ok if I never heard the left right chant again after a player fouls out
How do you drop that pep band classic? When the crowd is into it after a run, it can get pretty loud.I miss the "Hey, Go State!" cheer the most....not entirely sure why the band doesn't play it anymore...ALSO I wish the band would stop playing Sweet Caroline during their pregame at bowl games....it's kind of setting us up for failure I feel lol

I cannot stand this song being played at any athletic event, immediately drains all energy from the crowd. When did this song come into the mix? As an ISU grad I don't recall ever hearing this song while a student, admittedly I may have been too drunk to pay attention, but I am curious. I think they played it at my son's graduation this past year and that was acceptable. Also, I’m sure I’ll get roasted for this, but play the Bells of Iowa State some other time instead of right before the football game. Maybe I’m wrong, but didn’t they quit playing that before games? I get where this comes from, but I still don't fully understand it. Is the song really any more of a buzzkill than the national anthem? Pregame is supposed to get the crowd involved, but is fifteen straight minutes of cheering or chants really going to help during the game? Also, I’m sure I’ll get roasted for this, but play the Bells of Iowa State some other time instead of right before the football game. I guess maybe it's because other schools have more tradition around their alma mater, but like someone else said, it doesn't really seem to negatively affect their crowds. I personally really like it. It gets me feeling a bit emotional since I haven't been back too often.
Not really right before. This video from October has "Don't know the words," the Cyclone Power chant, "Go Cyclones," and the fight song all in between Bells and the team coming out. This is played right before the team comes out. If they insist on playing it, play it first.

In my view, that's plenty of time for the crowd to get excited again before the team comes out.
