This.

Losing is tough but this program has been on an upward trend since Freddy showed up. Take me back to the McD days and tell me we would have done ANY SINGLE THING on this list and I would have been very happy.

This season was not a disappointment. The ending was but the season as a whole was not.

We finished 2nd in the regular season and won the conference tournament. We had single digit losses for the second straight year.

C'mon negative Nancy's, this was a good year.

You can understand now why Ku fans act like they don't care about the conf. tourney. Yeah it's great that we won, but after a loss like that yesterday, it felt like it was a waste. Like the whole year boiled down to that UAB game.

I'm sure that feelings will change over a few months, but I feel that even next year when we're rolling through the schedule, it's always going to be in the back of your mind that no matter what, this season comes down to one game at a time in March.

GREAT Season. GREAT Big 12 Tourney. Horrible way to end not living up to the tourney hype, but we all know anything can happen in March. Now that the ride is over I think it is time to post some favorite moments. (video, gifs, pics, etc.)

I'll start with this:

The players deserve to be criticized for yesterday's performance. Doesn't mean the rest of the season wasn't good, but yesterday was an embarrassment.

No, they do NOT deserve to be criticized. We all have off days that make us feel like failures. But most of us have the luxury of not having our "failures" televised for all the world to see. Imagine the highs you felt this season. Imagine the lows. Now take that times 1000 and you may have a sense of how our guys feel right about now. This loss is the kind of pain they will carry in their hearts for a long, long time. Every single one of those guys from Fred on down the bench know exactly what they need to do with this loss and they will learn from it.

I've said it again, and I'll say it before, and then I'll say it again again and then I'll say it some more before saying it AGAIN--the reason we play and follow any game is not because we will win, but because we face the risk of losing. If we didn't have losing, there would be no thrill of victory. The benefit of this kind of loss is the sheer horror of it will NOT be forgotten by our guys, and Fred will find a way to make an even better team because of it. This loss could very well mark the beginning of something even greater.

This loss sucks. Yes. But stay loyal to your Cyclones.

Would you be okay with losing to Texas on Thursday night in the Big 12? Not me. I don't think our Big 12 tournament success is related to our NCAA loss. So, I'm really glad we have the Big 12 tourney win. That is how I'm going to remember this season.

Great time in KC.

That loss in Louisville was just an early exhibition game for next year!

Yeah, if this season was a major turd, the end wouldn't come as such a shock. On top of that, I love those kids and this staff, and they're hurting more than us.

That's the hard part. Now is the time everyone is watching. Cyclone fans know the success before yesterday but outside of our fans this upset is what will be remembered and replayed every March until we do something in March to erase it with a better highlight. For years the image of ISU in March was Hampton. This isn't as bad but people have sound bite attention spans and this is a perfect negative sound bite.

You remember the Hampton loss? You can understand why I don't care about the regular season title.
Nothing makes a loss like this any less painful. That said, there is a lot less what-if to this year than White's team facing UK in the second round or Georges getting hurt last year.

Well said. It's OK to be critical of aspects of the game, that's what fans do. But I can't stand people questioning effort or desire of the team. If anything I think this team overachieved during the reg season and conf tourney. Teams that lose two AA players rarely grab a 3 seed. Sandwiched between kentucky's title and this year were an NIT loss to Robert Morris and an 8 seed that got hot and went on a run. Duke has lost in the first rd 2 of the past 3 years. The tourney is a crapshoot, which is why many of us consider it great.
