How about this...
Dear Mr. Brand,
I’m sure that you are now aware of the situation involving Lucca Staiger of Iowa State University and Fabian Boeke of Washington State University. From some of the press I have read on their current situation and some of the websites I have visited, such as FreeLucca.com, I can assume that you have received a number of letters and emails expressing dissatisfaction with the ruling of the NCAA Amateurism Certification Program. Let me assure you that there are those of us with far more level heads who completely support the decision of the NCAA to declare these two deviants ineligible for a full year.
I think that there is a need in our country for more visionary organizations like the NCAA. This very morning I will be writing a proposal to our local school district that would require all science teachers to go back and look at the grades they have given to past students. You see, a short time ago it was decided that Pluto is no longer a planet. Any student who listed Pluto as a planet in our solar system should now have that marked incorrect. Any student who wrote a paper on the “planet” Pluto should now receive a failing grade. If that failing grade means that they would no longer have a passing grade for the course, their high school diploma should be stripped, their college degree considered invalid, and any salary they have earned since graduation should be returned since it was given under false pretenses. Any young person who doesn’t have the foresight to see into the future and know that a rule is going to be changed has no business being in college.
As a matter of fact, I will be turning myself into to my local police department this afternoon. It seems that a road that I frequently travel on has recently had the speed limit lowered, meaning I have been speeding on it over the past several years. While I was going the posted speed limit at the time, I should have been able to guess the actions of a committee far enough in advance to adjust my behavior. Certainly the amount of tickets that I should have received given that fact would mean that my driver’s license should be stripped, I should spend some time in jail for unpaid tickets and I should write my insurance company a large check because they certainly would have raised my premiums.
If you have any other suggestions for punishments that should be handed down for issues such as this, please feel free to contact me.
Sincerely,
A Rational, Concerned Citizen
