For those heading south on I-35 who want to go east on U.S. 30, the DOT says they will need to exit onto westbound U.S. 30 (exit 111B), travel west on U.S. 30 and exit at Dayton Avenue (exit 150) and then turn back onto U.S. 30 to travel east.
Eastbound U.S. 30 traffic wanting to go north on I-35 will need to exit at Dayton Ave. and go north onto 13th Street and then turn onto northbound I-35.
Those heading westbound on U.S. 30 who want to go south on I-35 will need to stay on U.S. 30 and exit at Dayton Ave. and then get back onto eastbound U.S. 30 before using the southbound I-35 ramp.
My experience in Civil engineering says that's probably a solid thought, but I felt like making a bad joke insteadOr maybe they scheduled it around this thing called winter? Just a thought...
How much time will this add to Kyle Greens daily commute? Is it a concern?
I think the extra 5-10 minutes will be too much to handle. Maybe if we hire Steven Leath back he can take the school plane to pick Kyle up every day.How much time will this add to Kyle Greens daily commute? Is it a concern?
You want kyle to die?!?!?I think the extra 5-10 minutes will be too much to handle. Maybe if we hire Steven Leath back he can take the school plane to pick Kyle up every day.
IDOT Bridge Repair projects can be as simple as guardrail updates/curb repairs on bridge all the way up to full deck replacements. Its a broad category that encompasses a lot of different things. The duration they mention (April-November) would make it seem as though they are extensive repairs. No way to tell without going and looking for the plans posted for the letting.I'm actually curious about what they're doing. They call this a repair project but based on all the bridges that have been replaced in Iowa these last few years, those two seems as good a candidates as any for total replacement.
Most state and local governments were in financial crisis during the pandemic. Also you don't just start one of these projects at the drop of a hat. You have to get it on a budget, create a design and construction documents, go out to bid, award the bid, get submittals from the winning bidder, procure materials, and mobilize before you can even start construction. Even if they had the money in 2020 by the time they knew the pandemic was going to close everything down there wouldn't have been time to go through all of that process and have construction completed before winter of 2020/21.To bad there wasn't a time to fix this when traffic was greatly reduced- oh wait. last year with the pandemic would have been perfect! IDiOT screws up again.
Has much more to do with the programming of money/funds than scheduling the least impactful time to complete it.To bad there wasn't a time to fix this when traffic was greatly reduced- oh wait. last year with the pandemic would have been perfect! IDiOT screws up again.
On second thought, maybe that isn't a great plan...You want kyle to die?!?!?
Besides if you rush things too much you are more likely to end up with a poor result like the fiasco that the flyover became.Has much more to do with the programming of money/funds than scheduling the least impactful time to complete it.
@VeloClone did a much better job explaining.
But more importantly, these projects are programmed 3-5 years in advance. The bridges are inspected every couple of years and determinations for repairs are made based on that. People think the IDOT gets handed $100 million on January 1st and they just go through the list and pick the things they want to get done that year. People could learn a lot if they would google: Project Development.Besides if you rush things too much you are more likely to end up with a poor result like the fiasco that the flyover became.
