When was the last time an Iowa State Head Football Coach left for a bigger program? I can't think of any maybe Johnnie Majors? Even in Basketball we have had 1 in the last 20 years. This is not something that keeps me up at night.

Uhhhhhhhh..........Ever hear of Earle Bruce??????

Brent has a legitimate point. Johnny Majors in a short time at ISU was wanted by many major programs. His trips for interviews became very disruptive. But when Johnny finally did leave, the team was in left in good condition. I believe the positives out weight the negatives.:wink0st:

I think we should hire a coach before we worry about how long he'll stay.

That's a dumb, dumb comment. Of course we should worry about how long a coach would stay if hired. Do you want to hire a coach who is going to leave at the 1st sign of success?

Ahhh, let's just hire him first and then worry about it later.

Or maybe you're saying why speculate about it until he's hired. Ooops, I thought this was a message board. I didn't know this type of speculation wasn't allowed.

Step 1: Hire a rising star of a coach (Floyd : Harbaugh)
Step 2: Win some serious games
Step 3: Coach leaves for bigger and better things
Step 4: Hire and even better coach (Eustachy : ?)
Step 5: Better coach leaves (for some reason or another...)
Step 6: Don't hire Wayne Morgan.

You don't think Pollard is taking that into consideration? I didn't say our expected longevity of a coach shouldn't be taken into affect - yet the firing of the new coach before he arrives or the expectations of when he will leave - it's quite presumptuous.

Anybody put together a list yet of the top candidates to replace Harbaugh 2011?

I seem to remember we had MORE success after floyd left for the NBA than we did WHILE we had him.

Yeah those were also Floyds recruits. Then when they ran out, where did we go? A new coach probably brought a new flavor for the year, but it ran out pretty quick.

Floyd was at least consistant. And look at him now. Doing pretty well I think.

whos going to be our coach after this new coach!? :eek4wd: Maybe the new coach will stay for like 20 years and then we can hire Seneca Wallace as the HC in 2027?

I gotta give Austin Flynn a look. Man, it would be great to see him succeed in coaching and climb up the ranks. I think this kid has what it takes, and really want to root for him in the future.

How soon we forget. Remember C.E. Woodruff? Me either. But he gave us his all in the Fall of 1900. In his one-year tenure, he produced a record of 2-5. They would have had better results, but in five of those games, they played an opposing team. Anyway, the following year he moved on to Michigan...the state. He never coached again but was content to raise oxen outside of Kalamazoo. But, had he chosen to stay in coaching, he no doubt would have ascended to higher ranks.

I guess Pollard can take that into consideration, but we can't when discussing who we would like to see as the next coach and why.

There's a lot of things on this board that are quite presumptuous...probably 99% of them. I'll start to point them out so as to avoid confusion.
