That's how it has worked with all the kids that transfer to us. Something happens at their previous school where they either don't think they are getting a fair shake or not getting promoted enough on the recruiting trail, or just want to win more. We are not allowed to make first contact, but we get a phone call from the parent/guardian to find out where they would fit in with us. And I know we aren't the only school that gets the phone calls.
ISU's Patrick Neal ended up at Valley for his sr year after transferring from WInterset. Visited Dowling and Valley and happened to be at the time when Dillon left Dowling. Valley just graduated a 2 year starter off their title team that was at Dowling before he went to 35th street.

Dude, you can't reason with the "Catholic schools recruit" crowd. I've been down this road. Ask if they have proof of "pay for play" arrangements. They don't.

Repeat after me, "All private schools recruit 100% of their students 100% of the time."

That part I understand fully. What I want people to understand is that it is no longer just Catholic Schools that get tranfers. There are kids that grew up in our program on almost every program in the metro.

Dowling all day. They never have a bad team. I like Dowling to win a state title next year. They should have won in 2010, they won in 2011, and last year had a pretty young team but were still competitive.

Ankeny may take a brief hiatus from the short list of top athletic programs in the state because they are splitting their talent in two, but they'll be back soon. The town is exploding in all four directions.

Ive never understood hating certain hs sports teams. its like hating a certain little leauge team. these kids still have to pick up their rooms and be home by 10.....I find it creepy and weird.

I heard Dowling recruited managers to clean their players rooms.

Unless they split Valley into two schools with their own athletics, Valley and Dowling will probably always be in the top 5 for talent. Kids from the affluent suburbs have more opportunities to go to camps and such. Parents want their kids to go to WDM schools as well, not just for athletics.

Valley may not actively recruit kids (I don't know either way) but in many cases they really don't have to. Kids want to go to the best programs and for Central Iowa, that's Valley and Dowling. Parents are willing to transfer their kids to WDM so they can go to some of the best academic schools. The DSM schools overall can't really compete with that. Lincoln is the closest because they are one of the biggest and don't have as many inner city kids, but they have their problems as well.

I don't believe this has been posted, but Vally is quite a bit larger than everybody else and it it not very close. With a little money and their large student population, they should be good year after year.

ANkeny was just a year or 2 away from being bigger than Valley. I think the new Ankeny high schools were built to accomodate 1500 but I may be wrong on that. I didn't realize SEP was so big.

Some of these numbers surprise me quite a bit. Didn't know SEP was that size either. Also surprised by Dowling's size, I thought that school was smaller and that Xavier was bigger. Also interesting to see how Des Moines public schools vary so much.

I know they are private but the fact that Assumption competes so highly as consistently as they do is pretty impressive considering they are about half the size at least of everyone in 4a

Could be, but Ankeny would have had to really make a big jump and Valley would have needed a big drop. In 2011-12, Valley was still 400 students larger than Ankeny.

Only a 144 student difference between combined Ankeny/Centennial and Valley for the following year. They were going to catch them in a hurry.

Yeah, I guess they could have done in it less than 5 years especially since I think Valley is essentially cut off from growing much larger.

I wonder how long it will take Waukee to split.

In the Bolte thread right now one of the parents said it will happen in '18/'19
