I've lived in Ankeny for 10 years and played in an Ames league up until last year. I'd potentially be interested as well....shoot me a PM if something happens down the road.

Hijacking: would also be interested in a DSM slowpitch league.

I'd be willing to drive down to Des Moines as well. If we get enough names put together we could find the best place for everyone. I know West Des Moines has a really nice league at Racoon Valley.

I've played at the greater Des Moines softball complex and in Ankeny before. I will warn you - last team I played on in Ankeny had two college baseball players on it and we got our asses kicked. You absolutely need guys who can hit homers in the Ankeny league even the lowest division. I was easily the worst player on the team and I'm not good but I'm not horrible either.

If I changed this to co-ed would it draw more interest?

Ankeny is a bunch of a-*****. Seriously, I've played for 15 years on teams at Racoon River, Des Moines, Altoona, and The Sands.

Ankeny is by far the most pretentious, disrespectful players in the entire area, all of them think they are playing game 7 of the world series and trying to compensate for the fact they couldn't hit a baseball in high school.

Changing the title of the thread since apparently the Ankeny Men's division was one of the worst life decisions I could possibly make.

Lol, its only one mans opinion. It honestly depends on what league you get in. I played in the "C" league one year, our team went 25-0 or something and we had a blast, drank alot of beer and enjoyed ourselves.

The next year they determined we were too good or something for that league, made us move to the "B" league, where we promptly went 4-17 I think and almost came to blows with other teams pretty much every week. Teams beating us 20-0 then yelling at the refs for blowing calls is just one example.

"Angry Young Guy" is definitley my Ankeny experience. Alot of guys that sucked at baseball in high school suddenly realizing its alot easier to hit a giant ball in 3 trys. Every team had a few of them that would come in full uniform, eye black, and stirrups.

Funniest thing I ever saw on a softball field, this jacked 6'5, 240 Albert Pujols looking guy comes up to bat, he's got his full baseball uniform on, wrist bands that he has to adjust. Im playing center so I naturally move back to the fence. The guy proceeds to have the worst, most awkward looking weak swing I've ever seen, whiffs on the first pitch, then pops it up to the catcher on the 2nd pitch. I dont think he got the ball out of the infield the entire game.

To be fair, I played co-ed in Altoona and there was a guy that punched out an umpire so bad they had to bring an ambulance on the field for him. This was a "B" co-ed game mind you.

I never had a problem with any of the other players in Ankeny. The level of play was high though and there was only 2 levels when I played last a few years ago.

Are you wanting to play mens fastpitch softball or slowpitch?
What are there now, about 3 fast-pitch teams left in Des Moines? I played from the late 80's to late 90's and it was on the decline in popularity then.
