**Updates from 1/18/16 from Rivals new top 8. I listed everyone with Rivals star ratings. We need to get Kallenberger and Lombardi.

1) Juan Harris, ****, 395 lb 6'3'' DT West Union, IA (committed to Iowa, for now) Other offers - Michigan, Texas, Vandy, Virigina.

2) Rocky Lombardi, ***, 196 lb 6'3'' QB, Valley High School (open). Offers - ISU, Miami (OH), Virginia.

3) Mark Kallenberger, ***, 6'6'', 250lb OL, Bettendorf, IA (open) . Offers from ISU, East Mich, Nebby, Iowa. Saw some video of this kid. Looks legit. Better get the full press on him.

4) Tristian Wirfs, ***, 265 lb 6'5'' OT, Mount Vernon, IA. (committed to Iowa, for now). Offers - Iowa State, Iowa.

5) Coy Kirkpatrick, ***, 253lb 6'4'' DE , Madrid Iowa. (committed to Iowa, for now). Offers - Iowa, Iowa State.

Devon Moore is currently committed to us out of Waterloo West HS. Colin Newell has an offer and being from Ames, I assume its just a matter of time.

From 12/15:

Looking at the top 5 in-state prospects for the 2017 class (Rivals), wondering what everyone's thoughts are:

1) Juan Harris, ****, 395 lb 6'3'' DT West Union, IA (committed to Iowa, for now) Other offers - Michigan, Texas, Vandy, Virigina. My thoughts - where is the ISU offer? Assuming we will give one soon on this kid.

2) Rocky Lombardi, ***, 196 lb 6'3'' QB, Valley High School (open). Offers - ISU, Virginia. Have to think we are in the drivers seat here. Anybody seen him play?

3) Tristian Wirfs, ***, 265 lb 6'5'' OT, Mount Vernon, IA. (committed to Iowa, for now). Offers - Iowa State, Iowa. My thoughts - I'd think the new coach and new energy around our program, plus the stadium updates, we just need to get this kid in for a visit.

4) Coy Kirkpatrick, ***, 253lb 6'4'' DE , Madrid Iowa. (committed to Iowa, for now). Offers - Iowa, Iowa State. I've never heard of this kid. Just need to get him in front of MC and touring our facilities. That plus early playing time and I'd like our chances. Anybody seen him play?

5) Jacob Coons, ***, 240 lb 6'4'' OLB, Solon Iowa. (committed to Iowa, for now). Offers - Iowa State, Iowa. We could always use another solid OLB. Same as above - just need to get these kids around MC. I think his energy and passion will do wonders with these kids. Anybody seen Coons play or know much about him?

I'm assuming that 153lbs is supposed to be 253lbs?

I can understand not offering the 4-star guy. That's a stellar offer list he's already got.

The 4 star, Harris, is the guy who has given his verbal a handful of times already. Someone with that offer list ending up at Iowa likely means those offers were off the table. Numbers look good but if you look a little deeper I'd be real tentative getting involved with him.

Also looking at the list makes me worry about a bigger focus on in state recruiting. Sounds great in a speech, on paper not so much.

Is Rocky Lombardi the son of the former Cedar Rapids Washington coach?

Not sure if CMC and company are looking for another QB for this class they already have Devon Moore from Waterloo West who is an in-state 2017 QB. Also I believe they are trying to snag HS and JUCO QBs for the 2016. That would leave you with next year a depth chart of 1a)Lanning(RS Junior) 1b) JUCO QB(Sophmore) *I know we are looking into a JC guy who has 3yrs to play 3yrs* ,then 3) Dom Delira(RS Freshman) and you could redshirt the HS QB out of the 2016 class. So in the end it wouldn't make much sense going after Rocky when we already have 4 QBs on scholly and a 2017 commit already our coaches could find better options to spend their time on.

1) Harris will probably decommit like 22 more times prior to choosing a school
2) Have to think we decreased our chances at Lombardi due to the commit from Moore

It seems like Coons is a when will he commit to Iowa not if. Wirfs isn't going to ISU and neither is Harris. Don't think they take Lombardi as they already got Moore to commit at QB

There are some other good players that you didn't list like
Devon Moore ISU commit
Colin Newell OL from Ames who I assume will be an ISU guy
And Mark Kallenberger OL who has an offer from Nebraska and ISU.

Where does Kallenberger go to school?

With the resurgence of Iowa in football this year, their recruiting should improve in the whole region including Ohio.

Harris will likely leave the state, wouldnt but too many apples in that basket. I would go after Lombardi as an athlete, potential LB. Wirfs and Coons are squarely in the heart of black and gold country, it would be hard to make Wirfs flip his commitment, though if Coons is still open, we have a shot there.

Kirkpatrick is the best option for ISU. He lives 45 minutes from campus and I am sure is familiar with what ISU has going on. That should be who CMC and staff focus on for the 5 you listed.

I admire your optimism but the committed to Iowa ones listed above are probably not going to sway just because of "getting them around MC".

Lombardi will not get an Iowa offer from what I have heard. His father is extremely hard to deal with. His father was run out of Washington hs in CR. He burned so many bridges with people in the eastern part of the state I would be shocked if he were to get an offer.
