In the spirit of CFH, what surgeries have you had?

With regards to stents, it seems they are reducing the use of them as they haven't proven to be more effective than angioplasty with medicine long term.

I started having chest pains about 4 weeks ago no other issues, went to see a doctor on 2/20 put a stent in my LAD the next day 98-99% blocked. At first I thought(hoped) at first it was heartburn, sometimes it's best to go sooner than later, as there might not have been a later. Night before the procedure they put me on Heparin and nitro by IV.

Good thing you paid attention as well. I had what I thought was heartburn, had some trouble swallowing, and woke up one night sweaty and nauseated. Went to the Dr and she ran a troponin test and called me about 3 hours later to tell me to get my ass to the ER because it was elevated. About 2 hrs later I had the stent put it.

I haven't figured out what to think about my "near death" experience. Did you make adjustments? Someone told me every new day is like a gift, I told them every day is what should be, "death" almost stole my life, I'm 57 thought I was in good health.

You are right, when in doubt SEE a doctor.

I eat better and make sure to get all my exercise. I was 44 when this happened 3 years ago. I was in pretty good shape already. Like you said, there might not be a tomorrow. Make sure to pay attention if you aren't feeling well, or feel like something might be "off" I feel lucky we caught it before it was too late.

Resurrecting this thread as I'm having my other hip replaced this summer. I'll be 54 with 2 titanium hips, a re-built shoulder, a recently dislocated AC joint in the other shoulder, 3 knee scopes and a healthy outlook on aging!

I'm pretty dang lucky as most of my malfunctions are hardware and hardware is easy to replace.

Now if I could just do something about my looks and sparkling personality...

Got my tonsils removed when I was 5, they grew back. Since then I've broke my nose a few times, broke a few toes, nothing that required surgery.

A really interesting thread.....never saw it before. And lots of good advice too.

My own are pretty straightforward....

Wisdom teeth removed (2 at a time)
Varicose vein surgery - twice 6 years apart on same leg. For the second surgery the nurse gave me 63 shots up and down my leg.......I counted them.

A year ago had two gallstones removed. Six years ago had gallbladder removed. One doctor claimed the first doctor missed them. The other blamed it on a medication I was taking.

Wisdom teeth like many folks.

Also surgery on my ears. Had tubes put in as a child, they were supposed to be permanent, one fell out at an unknown time the other fell inwards which was a problem. In both ears I still had small perforations from where they had been so I had the one that fell inwards removed and then had surgery to repair the holes.
