You act like I just started covering Creighton this year.....I've been doing so for over 5. Someone put out a rumor - I'm in position to confirm or deny it...so I did.

Whoa, Matt. You must have missed the ':)' at the end of my comment. I think you do a FANTASTIC job covering Creighton.

I will say that I think you are trying to get your show on KXNO to cover Creighton like they do UNI or Drake or even Iowa or Iowa State. Which is fine, but I think there are very few Creighton fans here in central Iowa. Even less than UNI has :) Creighton is going to be somewhat relevent in central Iowa for the next year or so while the 2011 and 2012 Iowa kids get recruited. And that's only because McDermott will have built a relationship with the good ones while he was at Iowa State. After that most of central Iowa will go back to not caring one way or another about Creighton.

Finally, about Rutter. I got what you were saying about him and not wanting to stay in that position for a long time. The point is that Rutter wants to be in Ames for a while. And one thing Fred needs is someone who knows college basketball admin very well. I think someone who has been in coaching for 20 years fits that bill pretty well. He has good contacts in the state of Iowa (and that was one of his recruiting areas while he was here), so even though he can't recruit---he knows the people that Fred will need to talk to throughout the state.

The thing about Hoiberg is that each of his assistants are going to have to fit a very strict mold. He needs the old, expirenced head coach. This would be where Lutz would be a very good fit. I am not sure who else he is looking at, but it is a hard one to find, I think. He needs a good recruiter who has contacts all over the country. That's TJ. He needs someone who knows college basketball inside and out and I think that is Rutter. The last job is a tricky one. Grayer will fill some role, but I think that probably depends on whether Fred lands his #1 target for the main assistant job.

OK JSB - it's hard on message boards to read the tone of a post. Sure you can write ":)" but that doesn't always mean the same thing to everyone.

I don't think I'm trying to talk about Creighton basketball for Creighton fans in Des Moines. I'm talking about Creighton when it has to do with Iowa State.

Jarrod Uthoff is the No. 1 target for Creighton and Iowa State. The Jays have been in on Jarrod as long as anyone.

Kody Ingle is most likely switching to Creighton.

Josh Oglesby is being hotly recruited by both....

And the former ISU coach is the coach of Creighton. There is a ton of crossover right now - won't always be like this - but right now, that's why you are hearing CU. I don't cover CU on the radio in Des Moines - I cover them online...

This is a Non Story

If Ingle comes to ISU great- he might contribute, but he is more likely a mop-up player and a practice player. However, ISU is having Gibbs in for a visit, it seems like they are willing to offer a scholarship to a similar type of player. If I'm Ingle I might feel like I just got recruited over and minutes might be slim.

Why wouldn't Ingle consider Creighton?
  • He has a relationship with GMAC.
  • His talent might be better suited to the MVC. Consider GMAC's words about his own son Doug. He thought the MVC bettter suited Doug's skills.
  • While at UNI GMAC had pretty good success with kids similar to Ingle. Josten and McKowan(sp?) ended up having pretty good careers at UNI. They weren't recruited to highly by ISU or Iowa, but they worked well in GMAC's 200+ play offense.
I hope Ingle is successful no matter where he ends up. Tearing a kid down is pretty childish.
