You can only tell half truth so long before people just completely stop believing you.

Do I think Keshon is hurt? Yea I could buy that. Do I think there is something else? I could buy that too. But I also remember when Caleb Grill was out “due to injury” and was off the team a week later.

And KG was 'out with injury' about a week ago, then missed another game 'out with injury' after having to leave the first game 'with an injury' after 'having an injury' that was clearly leading to hobbling around a lot of times, and is still on the team.

If there's something else, there's something else, but if that's the case, then the people 'in the know' need to be transparent about it and actually say what's happening instead of passive suggestions themselves.

On the broadcast against BYU, Fran Fraschilla literally said “I’m not sure we’re going to see Keshon in an ISU uniform again” due to the injury. This was always a possibility, and maybe a likelihood depending on how bad the injury is.

To a.) be surprised by this and b.) start to conspire theories about it is going full CF.

I thought in TJ's post-game presser after BYU he sounded like he was trying to be positive about it but knew things weren't good.

I guess my point is, it was odd how he went from being out but day to day, playing arguably his best game of the conference schedule against BYU, then back to day to day, then seemingly out of nowhere, definitively out for the entire tournament no matter how far they make it.

It’s just odd.

But hey, he’s out, hopefully he gets everything right and has a great pro career somewhere. I’ll be cheering on the rest of the team on Friday.

Well if the speculation is that he's out for pro prospects and nothing else, that's a little weird since this is the biggest stage to showcase talents against the best. So that's a little tricky to buy.

I'm also not sure if BYU was his best game but he did play a lot; maybe they knew it was his last time so he wanted to leave it all out there.

The ceiling for this team sure has been lowered it feels like. Felt like an Elite 8 or Final 4 caliber team when we were at full health but playing without Gilbert and also not certain what to expect with Lipsey who has already been a warrior with his thumb injury before the groin injury. This team is fearless and I think they left it all out on the court with a gutsy effort against BYU scoring 92 without Lipsey and Gilbert. I like that our defense is hard to prepare for if you have never played against it so I think even with our challenges offensively the defense should be enough to get us to the 2nd weekend of play. This is where our draw is going to be tough as if we can make the round of 16 we basically will be playing with house money going forward.

'The longer ISU plays with this current configuration the better they will get' Blum on the live CW pod.

I agree, we saw things in the last month with Jefferson we havent seen a lot earlier.

Milan we saw a whole nother game from him in KC.

Jackson, Heise, Chadtfield all been on the rise, and Lipseys shooting has been good.

What we lose offensively is that drive to the lane Gilbert provided. Really need Heise to take it to another level and if Lipsey can drive still we can go deep.

Kelderman needs to make a huge jump now, he should be fresh.

Does anyone even know about Jefferson nationally? Him and Curits can carry us to the F4 just like that Uconn team that knocked us out in that Niang foot year. I really dont think the obese lady has sung yet on this team. We may just have to adjust the defensive plan a bit after the BYU drumming.

Seems weird that the staff didn’t rest him in the regular season so that he would heal if it is a quad strain that’s lasted 2.5 months.

Otz might have considered it if the team wasn't already struggling with the Momcilovic injury at that time.

It just doesn’t add up that you play against Cincinnati 4 days ago and then instead of being day to day or ruled out for the first weekend he’s ruled out for the entire tournament

1. he didn't start
2. he played 10 minutes
3. his stat line for that game: 1-2 from the field, 3 points. 0 rebounds, 0 assists, 0 steals.

So this whole "I don't get it - he played against Cincinnati"... the stats would say he was just a body on the floor that game, and who's to say he didn't reaggravate the injury in the limited amonut of time he was on the floor?

It does if you think about how he didn't play the game before, only played 10 minutes and none if the 2nd half, and didn't play after that but maybe it's better to look for a problem that's not there.

I think there might be a little more to the story here. Either way, wish him well. He was a force early on.

It seems obvious Gilbert got hurt and has been hurting for some time. His effectiveness fell off in later season games vs his peak. And he didn't look right in his short stint vs Cincy. So no reason there has to be more to the story

That said, I agree TJs interview was odd too. Normal to be frustrated and want to concentrate on players who can play. Although to be so short with statement and not acknowledge something about how hard Gilbert has worked to get to his senior season, and/or to get healthy, and what a leader he has been for two years is not exactly normal coach talk either about a beloved teammate who gets injured. Gilbert followed TJ from UNLV, think he would have acknowledged his role in helping to turn program around or set culture to what will allow them to be successful this week without him.

Wish him the best. Hope there is just frustration over injury and desire to move on knowing that injured Gilbert not a help to the Team. He made some great plays this year and looked like had potential this year to be key piece of a great tournament team.

Missed some games, was feeling good, clearly aggravated it (whatever it is) from going hard in the BYU game and then tried to go in the Cincinnati game and just couldn't do it. It became clear that he just wasn't going to get it right enough to play again this year.

This isn't that hard.
