Didn't Rhoads say he doesn't expect to retire at Iowa State?

Yes. Because the nature of the business of coaching makes a career stop at one school highly unlikely.

I do think CPR is satisfied at ISU for now. And if we can keep improving as a team and our facilities he will likely stay. As he would be satisfied as well as the fans.

Yeah, he didn't expect to retire here because most coaches get fired in less than 5 years at a school.

Just out of curiosity though, let's say Rhoads did leave tomorrow to go somewhere else. Who would be the top candidate on JP's short list do you think?

Rhoads will be here as long as the program is growing and the AD is able to continue to upgrade our facilities and budget. And we pay him what he could earn elsewhere. I'm sure Rhoads is the kind of guy that would give the AD the chance to match another offer, but if we can't come close to matching it he'd be negligent not to take a jump.

You're kidding yourself if you don't think he'd leave for an elite school if they offered him pay and facilities that ISU could never hope to match. He's not gonna pull a Chiz or anything, but nobody should assume we have Rhoads on lock for the next 20 years if we don't pay him a market rate.

Just enjoy the ride as long as we can. We are Iowa State and our current coach's contract offers about as much long term stability as any in college football. Let's just hope 5 years from now, we're not going to regret having signed it.

As far as money, I do not think that is what motivates CPR. Sure, he wants to make decent money. But an extra half a million for CPR is less important than the program and support he gets from the fans and the University. Extra money for a few years is actually LESS than a good sustained income for life and being an Icon to your fanbase and University. Ask any Coach. Ask Earle Bruce. He says the Biggest Mistake he ever made was leaving ISU for tOSU Coaching Job. Even though it was his dream job. Because Earle Bruce had it going at ISU and could have been a legend IMO.
