To be fair, Minnesota had some controversy surrounding this, although it was in 1959 per the history accounts.

Hey, Iowa, how about reducing that speed limit to 55 again?

And on January 1 it was 7:17 AM and 4:55 PM.

Id take 8:17 AM and 5:55 PM over that as well. If were going to change, I say go to year round DST.

We aren't going to start picking school kids up in the morning in the dark in Iowa.

This. If anything I'd rather go to permanent DST

Yeah, I'd be on board with this. Just reading this, it popped into my head how badly this would screw up my kids' softball seasons if it were implemented here in Illinois. We don't have enough fields with lights and would have to start the games an hour earlier to be able to complete them during the week. This would make it virtually impossible to have weeknight games that lasted more than an hour, at least early in the season. Moving games up would mean most kids couldn't make the games. We rely pretty heavily on that extra hour in the evening to get games in during the week. (we are about 30 Minutes ahead of Des Moines as far as when it gets dark)

Oh well, completely unimportant, just popped into my head and I thought I would share. Although I also wonder how golf courses would feel about this. Would make it a lot tighter to be able to get a round in after work.

How does it not? Its function is to extend daylight at night. How has that function expired?
The original purpose of it was to aid working hours of the early industrialized world, which now isn't really necessary in modern times. I don't really care what time they choose to set it to, just pick a time and make everyone else follow suit so it's straight and easy to work with. I actually would prefer this be a national thing than a state-specific thing, as that further complicates things. Just pick a set time and let the working sector adjust as necessary for them.

Or don't change it. It would just be nice to have everybody on the same page, which is easiest when done federally. Or, go permanent DST. Fine by me.

Move it ahead 30 minutes this Spring and then just leave it. Everyone wakes up Sunday morning and life goes on as always without dealing with that colossal waste of time twice a year.

This is what I've always believed a good solution would be. Split the difference and do away with DST/ Std time. Barring that, I'd take permanent Standard Time.

So you want to be a half hour off from everyone else in the country/world? Seems odd.

Yeah that would probably work best if done at the federal level, but it does make a lot of sense from a timing standpoint by eliminating some of the extremes that other posters have brought up.

Not sure it is a big deal either way and it's funny this is an item the legislature wants to spend time on.

Screw permanent Standard time. We NEED Permanent Daylight Savings all year!!! We have ALREADY as a country made DST MUCH longer than standard time during the year because it is better for ALMOST everybody.

This should be a National decision though, that way all the time-zones stay the same, and people who live near the border of their states aren't all ****** up like in AZ.

Federal DST all year! Let's do this!!!

People who complain about dropping off kids in the dark? WTF..you already have to pick them up in the ******* dark in the winter! Seriously, get over it.

Then, why don't we just go to one time zone, if the rest is irrelevant?
