Deacon Hill isn't even the projected starter week one (assuming McNamara is healthy). Asking for starter money when you are the backup and not even a good one seems like a bold move by Hill.

Either McNamara isn't going to be ready or this story is BS.
2 ACL tears in back to back years basically.

Are they worried about him being ready, or worried about him being able to play at all? I dont think its the former...

Trent Condon said on KXNO that Deacon's camp asked for $200k in NIL as that is a baseline rate for a starting Big 10 QB. Iowa said no, so he left. Condon claiming this was straight from an associate member of the Swarm collective.
Does this surprise anyone? These are 18-22 year olds who not only share a locker room, but spend their waking hours in a fishbowl on college campuses. Money is one of life's measuring sticks- so not only will players compare themselves against peers at other schools, but their teammates paychecks.

IMO every school, including Iowa State, is going to lose players because of NIL rivalry. It's what happens when every player has a 1 year contract.

They are clearly concerned about McNamara otherwise they wouldn't be hitting the portal for a QB.
Saw on their site that McNamara was still four months away from getting cleared to play, which puts him right around the start of fall camp. The video they posted online of him taking a few snaps and moving looked horrible. This is his 2nd operation on his left knee, so you wonder if he is going to get back to full health or not, and if he does, how long is he going to last.

With guys using Covid years many teams are over the scholarship limit heading into the spring. Iowa and Iowa State both included.
Hearing Iowa might put some on walk on and pay for their scholarship with NIL money. I’m sure the power teams are already doing so.

He hurt his right knee at Michigan, but not sure if it was an ACL or not. He tore his ACL in his left knee at Iowa. Not good either way.

The most concerning thing about all of this is the doctor claiming he didnt heal properly from whatever injury it was, then comes back and gets the other knee blown out and tears his ACL. Dude is gonna have replacements before he turns 35

Not sure how that would be legal, the conference has rules that everyone gets four years guaranteed, so if they can, it would only apply to players on their 5th or 6th year. Why would a player that is getting playing time agree to give up his ship instead of taking it and the NIL money?

Sounds like EIU will have to start "creening" people, something that they do not do over East.

What is the monthly intake?
Not sure on the numbers, but stores bought up tons of Swarm initially, which saw a large amount of NIL funds coming through and the collective thought those numbers would continue. Once people realized the beer sucked (even most Hawk fans don't like it), the product didn't move and stores haven't ordered more (stores had pallets that didn't sell).

Hurt his left quad too at Iowa right? That might've played a huge factor in his ACL injury if it was the same leg.

Pretty sure all of those rules have been thrown out the window with NIL and transfer portal. It is the Wild West.

I would be too. He’s not even good IF he’s healthy.
He's average when healthy. Of course that would be enough in the old Big 10 West as all their QBs for the past several years have been incredibly bad. But it will start to have more of an impact.

Is there any chance they’ll find a decent and potentially #1 guy in the portal…. Doubtful that McNamara can be healthy enough to win 4or 5 games??
The QB means nothing in Iowa Football. Punting wins games.

Utah St qb who was their starter last season has entered the portal. I’d love to see Petras tear up the MW.
