We can live with a turnover or two, depending on the scenario. If it's late in the first half, and we get the ball back on our 30 yard line with 5 seconds left, and AA gets picked firing a bomb towards the endzone, I couldn't care less.

It's all situational.

Fair enough. So you are saying those are acceptable, but the ones he throws right into Tyler Sash's hands are not? Cool. Got it.

All I know is this Iowa team is the most-hyped team since 2005, and we all know what happened that year...

I'm going to stick with the "anything is possible because it's a rivalry" reasoning.

I'd say if Arnaud throws ANY picks, we're toast. Need an almost perfect game from him and the line. Freaking Adrian Clayborn.

The problem, I think you'll find out, is that Clayborn is going to open a ton of opportunities for Klug and Ballard. By all accounts, the coaching staff said the guy who was most improved in spring ball was Karl Klug. Coaches have stated that he looks almost identical to Mitch King out there now. So now offenses will double team AC, but try and single Klug. And from what I've seen/heard about Klug, that ain't gonna happen.

Christian Ballard also put on 15 pounds this offseason and has retained all of his quickness according to the coaching staff....some people had him projected as a 1st round draft pick in the 2011 draft already....now he should even be more fearsome.

2011 NFL Mock Draft

So Iowa could have two potential first round draft picks on the DL, a guy like Karl Klug who is reminding coaches of Mitch King, and finally, the guy who I think will be the breakout player of the year on D, Broderick Binns. Binns is incredibly fast and has great arm length (great for knocking down passes), he simply needed a little more muscle to really become an elite DE. I think Binns will shine this year because defenses will be so focused on AC.

Also, I've always thought that the most improvement for Iowa players always came in year two of starting (hence what we saw from Clayborn going from 08 to 09). There will be 3 guys starting for their 2nd year on the Iowa DL this year (this is Ballards 3rd year starting on the DL, however, it will be only his second year at DT)....Imagine if only one of them improves by as much as Clayborn did.

They will always be overhyped by their fanbase, but that doesn't mean they will be very good. The question will be whether they can move the ball. They are replacing most of their O-line and have a QB that has had problems deciding which color uniform he's wearing. If they can fix these problems this year they can just pound it down teams throats and let their defense win some games by only needing 14 or so points. I still don't see the NC being a possiblity, but they could sniff another BCS bowl if the chips fall right.

The difference is in 05 all that hype was coming just from the "Tate to Halloway" miracle in the CapOne Bowl. Seemed like most national talking heads were blind to the fact that Iowa lost a ton from 04 to 05.

This year though, they return eight starters on a top 10 defense. Their D alone will be enough to win a majority of their games. The only thing any of their opponents would hope for is that their Oline doesn't come together. In that case teams like us may have a chance.

This game will be tough. Stanzi may not be great or even good, but that guy somehow turns it on when it's crunch-time. Wegher and Hampton will be running behind one of the best OLs in all of college football and McNutt is one of the luckiest receivers I have ever seen and seems to make a play at the last second. Then there's the defense with probable 1st round pick Clayborne, a LB corps that can churn out talent when it looks like they have none and a secondary that can't be thrown on. The only thing that goes in ISU's favor is tempo. Iowa takes their time getting plays in and when they run a hurry-up it's almost laughable because you can visibly see they are not comfortable with the pressure on them (at least that was the case last year). The clock will not be our friend in this game, we need to be snapping that ball with 15-10 seconds left on the clock every play and have the Hawks playing on their backs.

I'll agree with this. I was implying that since we might need to double Clayborn if the line isn't perfect, then Ballard, Binns, etc, would eat up Arnaud and A-Rob.

Since Iowa got that new rule implemented 3 years ago, its hard for any team to beat them.

Apparently, you can't tackle Iowa football players around the ankles anymore---it messes up the monitoring devices that the players have...Burn!!!

You can play that card, but if you think Iowa State's offensive line isn't going to improve, you're nuts. Even with injuries last season, Iowa State had a VERY solid offensive line. Iowa's defensive line is going to be great, don't get me wrong, but Iowa State has a very experienced offensive line which was solid last season already. I'm sure Herman would welcome Claiborn trying to speed rush around the outside of KO (who will also be playing on Sundays) so he can just go off tackle with A-Rob. Iowa State ran the ball at will on the same defensive line that Iowa had last season.

And to whoever above said you can't throw on Iowa's defensive backs: You can throw 5-7 yard passes all day on them and they aren't going to stop you. If you try and throw 15-20 yard passes, they're going to eat you alive. Their secondary didn't put up staggering numbers last year, you just have to be willing to take 5-7 yards per play instead of going after the deep ball all the time.

I'd hardly consider Iowa's OLine one of the best in all of college football. Not this year.

Perfect reason why Arnaud has to improve his accuracy to prevent stalling drives. Incompletions against secondaries like this really hurt a drive.

Agreed. We need to take advantage the fact that Iowa's Oline will probably still be a little out of order. They have a cupcake the week before so they aren't going to be challenged yet. If we can force Stanzi to make some bad choices we may be able to show them how we felt last year.

How great would it be to be the only L on Iowa's schedule again this year. All this hype about a NC and then little ol' ISU rolls into Kinnick and shocks the sqwoks.

That would be my definition of a perfect day.

Right now I say 30-16 Iowa.

Will be better than last year. I'm sure we learned some things from last year's game, but unless Iowa goes Nebbie on us and turns it over like crazy I doubt we come out on top.

Well, that and they were ranked 8th. Probably close to what they will be this year.

Unless Iowa forces ridiculous amounts of turnovers again, they will not score a lot of points. Their offense still isn't very spectacular. No doubt their defense is still the strength of their team and is what will win them games.
