Iowa/ISU at Soldier Field

I actually brought this up in another thread but wanted to get some more opinions on it. Let's say that, hypothetically, the Iowa/ISU annual game comes to a halt because of the extended conference schedule. Do you think it would be possible to play at someplace like Soldier Field or Arrowhead every 2 or 3 years?

I think there's enough passion between both fanbases that we wouldn't have too much trouble filling up any stadium. And you have to figure that Chicago or KC would love to see Iowans invading their cities and emptying their wallets. Also, you would be talking about some epic tailgating.

Don't like it...Why take the game and all of the dollars spent at that game out of the state.

Can't see it happening. If we played Iowa every 3 years or so, I have a feeling it would be in Kinnick or possibly alternating b/ween JT and Kinnick. I think a situation like you are describing works when we play a team like KSU in Kansas City or when Iowa played NIU at Soldier Field. However taking 2 teams out of the state of iowa would not happen. Think of the hotels in IC and Ames that would suffer, cant see either Pollard or Barta doing that. If we play Iowa it will be in the State of Iowa.

in-state rivalry out of state? Won't happen. And, all of this stupid talk of the series getting canned...is off target. It's not going anywhere.

Yeah, let's take a huge BCS in-state rivalry, and move itand all the fans' $$$ out of the state It's a ridiculous thought.
Do you also think Georgia Tech-Georgia should move their game to Miami?
Every big in-state rivalry plays home-and-home, every year.

I figured for sure you'd have a coronary reading this idea after your lash at Pollard for moving the K-State game to KC. :wideeyed:

I understand the "let's not move the instate game out of state" argument. But if the game is not going to be played every year, I just thought a neutral site might make some sense. I don't see Iowa giving up a home game just to play in Ames. After reading Barta's comments today, I am even more convinced of it. So, I figured it would be more beneficial for ISU to play somewhere like Soldier Field than to come and play at Kinnick every other year.

I would love it but thats just because it would take me only 45 minutes to get to the game. Its never going to happen though.

The only way this game would ever move to a neutral site would be if one could be found in the state of Iowa. So unless Des Moines lands an NFL team and builds a 60k or 70k stadium, then this will never happen. Since there is no chance of that, there is your answer.

As for playing at Kinnick every year, no chance does that happen. If the game continues, it will alternate between Ames and Iowa City. No way would ISU sign on to play this game on the road every time.

I certainly would not travel out of state to attend the Iowa-Iowa State game.

Obviously not a popular idea on this site. Fair enough. But I think some of you are going to have to think outside the box if you want this series to continue(and it seems like that is what the majority on this site want). With the way things are moving, it's not going to be business as usual with this series.

I actually like the idea. As far as the taking $ out of the state. I'll ask this? How much money is actually spent in state for this game that would be spent out of state?

With the Iowa-ISU game I don't think there are a huge amount of people that spend the night in Ames or Iowa City (I may be wrong) for that game. After that the next biggest moneymaker is probably ticket sales for the teams (they may even get an increase by hosting it in larger pro venues). After that would it be tailgating supplies? I'm not sure how many people buy there supplies at destination. I know I would tend to buy my stuff before heading to the game.

I would however think that there would be political pressure to leave the game in the state of Iowa.

I would not mind playing Iowa in Kansas City of Chicago every few years if the series can't continue in it's current form. It's better than not getting to do it.
