You do realize though that outside of like maybe 5% of college football fans, a win/loss to a crappy FCS school looks the exact same as a win/loss to a good FCS school (minus NDSU)

What’s even dumber to me is some people (@clonedude) making the argument that we shouldn’t schedule another game because it sends the message we’re worried about not getting 6 wins. Why the hell would you take a game and a chance to compete away from kids? You’re taking close to 10% of their season away from them by not scheduling another game. Some of the arguments against scheduling this game are so stupid it hurts

Nobody ever talks about the extra practice/ game experience.
These kids want to compete, granted this one shouldn't be much of a competition. Regardless a great opportunity for the team to continue to grow, and get young players some in game experience

If anybody is complaining about the quality of opponent, let me just remind you that Alabama is playing Citadel on November 17th... Yes, The Citadel...
Does anyone else think it's funny that a school named The Citadel has an absolutely horrendous DEFENSE in basketball? Not sure if they have the same philosophy in football - score, score, score (Well, against 'Bama, it's going to be survive, survive, survive). In hoops, they often give up 100 pts a game.

Plus Air Force is known for its ground game.

At least Navy is strong in men's swimming ...

Well they are less of a team. Let's be honest. They are terrible. I don't mind the game. If we would have scheduled them for a normal regular season game I would have questioned wth we were doing. However, with the circumstance we have. It's a game and I am good with it. I had heard of them because they did well in the NCAA basketball tourney a few years ago. I honestly didn't know they had a football team though.

They weren’t in the ncaa. They beat Nebraska one year in basketball.

If ISU is not in line for a bowl bid after the end of the Big 12 season this game still has benefits. First as has been mentioned numerous times it gives a chance to give redshirting players who haven't appeared in 4 games another chance to compete. That game experience will help their development in the offseason. It also extends the season by a week so the team is getting an additional week of practice which coupled with playing time for returning bench players can be huge for development.

If ISU is heading to a bowl game, bowls will find a a 7-5 team more attractive than a 6-5 team or an 8-4 team more attractive than a 7-4 team, etc.

Generally football players who play all four years only get 48-52 games to compete in their college career. If a player doesn't play their freshman year that goes down to 36-39 games. Take out for a season killing injury and a player could be at 24-26 games. Why would we simply take away another one of their games?

This game isn't really a bad thing in any meaningful way. If we have 5 wins going into it, we should leave with 6. If we have 6 or more, add another one to the pile for bowl pecking order. If we're under 5 wins, add another game to get our young guys out there for real experience (which also applies to the other scenarios).

There just isn't really a "downside" to this. It's not impressive by any means, but it's better than being shorted a game (and, hey -- an extra tailgate!).

The Citadel was ranked #173 last year by Sagarin, Incarnate Word was at #240.

That’s only a 67 spot difference or the same gap between Alabama and Toldeo.

LOL!

Potential problem could arise if Incarnate Word uses their payout to add yellow to their color scheme. Could get confusing for our players. Potential Problem.png
