In regards to the player himself, I don't have a problem with taking if there are 3 or 4 spots to fill. If only a couple it is a bit head scratching.

Williams would make a lot of sense and would be an exact replacement for Gabe if Gabe isn't coming back.

How about why isn’t Jeremiah Williams getting any minutes thread?
Probably to be safe we should start both. Or possibly we could just have a "Jeremiah Williams Playing time" thread.

Or better yet to really cover our bases, we just have a thread titled "Jeremiah Williams" that can be bumped any time he does anything newsworthy. I think all of CF can agree that is the best strategy.

Let's go with just "Williams" so people can throw random complaints about CW in there, too.

Condon and Miller pretty much said it’s a done deal. I guess we will see how good their source is.
Yeah and that was last Wednesday or Thursday I think. UNI’s season has been over for a while now and there hasn’t been a word out of Waterloo yet. Makes me doubt it’s going to happen.

JR has listed Williams current schools in contact. Solid list.

not important but as I read thru those schools, agreeing that it was a solid list, it was interesting to note that I think only 3 of those schools made the NCAA tournament. Glad we're in the big12 where quad1 wins are everywhere. Winning a good share of those games isn't a very easy thing however. Makes me appreciate this year's Sweet 16 even more.

“Williams playing time thread” then put one of those fancy new thread banner pics of CW Icing his ballsack.

I can actually see the value here. You get a decent ball handler that can defend 1-3. That helps with switching on D. I loved Tre Jackson, but he was not a great ball handler and was small enough that he could get posted up on switches. This seems like an upgrade. That said, they 100% need to find some shooters and a post.

I honestly think that TJ is going to continue to take defensive minded players out of the portal and recruit offensive players out of high school and build his system out of that. That way we are consistent and are building a culture while bringing in better players. You can hit home runs in the transfer portal but that only lasts so long.
It’s easier to teach defense than correcting their shot! Need to bring in shooters and teach them defense!

Williams seems like a kid to me that would actually benefit from the prior transfer rules. Have a year to sit out to work on his shot get better and be ready for the Big 12. Think there are both good and bad aspects to the immediate eligibility rule.

I skimmed through some highlights and condensed game footage of Jeremiah Williams and see a very good on-ball defender. Help defense showed flashes, but he had a tendency to stand flatfooted and ball watch. Maybe that's how he got his nice steal & block numbers, but that's just speculation. On offense, I saw him making simple reads & good passes while in their spread sets. He's respectably fast and strong with the dribble too. Don't recall much P&R action with him, but that could be a product of the footage I found.

Perhaps he would be someone to fit Gabes role, and also be a stronger secondary ball handler to play alongside Hunter. Or takeover initiating the offense like Gabe did on some short occasions this year.

Oh, and I noticed a little bit of a comparison to another Big12 player.
Looking at his previous year's stats, would you have wanted him on the 2021-22 Iowa State roster?
Here are the per game averages for that other Big12 player's 2020-21 year and Jeremiah's 2021-22 .

Kevin McCullar's 2020-21 year with Texas Tech is the first row, Jeremiah Williams's 2021-22 is the second row.

Obviously I'm just some dude on a message board, and I'm not saying that Jeremiah Williams would instantly be a homerun signing. It's officially the off-season, so I'm just having some fun with looking at what next year might look like.

The point is this - Until the way that games are refereed changes, especially in the Big12, we're going to target strong, defensive guards whether they are knockdown shooters or not.

If he can score the ball in other ways including finishing at the rim that's a big deal.

A good 3 point shooter is great but so is someone who makes the defense move.
