Actually the RAG was in grave error the way they stated that. Iowa State athletic department officials did have immediate comment - in the form of a press release. They might have a leg to stand on if they said "no further comment". The way they stated it is misleading at best, more aptly shoddy journalism.
Quality investigative journalism out of the RAG once again.
Baylor - 1266 impermissible contacts in just over two years. Iowa State - 79 impermissible contacts in three years. So yes, but NO.
So the bigger question is how baylor made 900k contacts with recruits in 2 years just in mens and womens basketball and we made just 700k contacts in all 18 sports over 3 years. By my math we are making 12, 962 contacts per team per year while baylor is making 225, 000 per team per year. Explains some of baylors resurgence, but how is that possible? They had to have other people employed texting the hell out of these kids from the coaches accounts. No way they are doing 20 times the contacting (probably more since football is by far the biggest sport and our numbers include football and theirs do not) without even more cheating texting provides convenient cover. Seems like the coach is doing it and makes you feel special getting texts all the time but are they really from the coaches..225000 a year??
... so a few too many phone calls and fessing up to it warrants a bigger headline than, say, football players sexually assaulting women? Okay, I understand now...

We should also consider that the NCAA doesn't even consider this stuff impermissible anymore...

No. I believe those changes failed to get through and have been tabled.
Still impermissible.

Obviously, the ISU athletic department is run by corrupt and immoral sociopaths. How DARE anyone even THINK about making an extra phone call or text message to a recruit! Do they not know that the whole integrity of college athletics solely rests on how many times you can talk to an athlete? Do they not know this behavior will be the catalyst toward the moral collapse of the entire edifice of the NCAA and Iowa State University as we know it? CPR, CFH and all the coaches should be fired summarily.

So what will happen then? It's sounding like probation for 2 years, if the NCAA accepts our self-imposed punishment. But what does that mean? Is it essentially the same thing that happened to Baylor? A slap on the wrist that says don't do it again?
If probation with the NCAA means the same thing as the legal system, yea, you are OK as long as you don't mess up again within the time period.
Consider this:
1. Of the more than 750,000 calls reviewed, 79 were deemed to be impermissible.
2. This was self-disclosed to the NCAA a year and a half ago.
3. Because of the complexity of trying to monitor all phone calls, texts, tweets, emails, etc. the NCAA recently threw it's hands up and decided to do away with these regulations altogether.
Bottom line, it's no big deal.
