I'd like to see Creighton be a home and homeWhy, so 3300 fans can attend the game?
Sioux Falls does have the Denny Sanford PREMIER CENTER that has a seating capacity of 10,600 for basketball. It is the site of the Summit League Basketball Tournament. The Summit League Tournament averaged 6,198 (2023) and was the 11th highest in avg attendance of all 32 conference tournaments. FYI, the MVC tournament avg 5,840, WCC averaged 3,978.Why, so 3300 fans can attend the game?
You have to play everyone at least once. I really miss the true round robin, but that ship has sailed unfortunatelyLove this news. If I had to guess someone like Fox or CBS is driving this series of games and will be on network TV.
Not a big fan of dropping from 20 to 18 Conference games. Feel better move would be playing geographic divisions with home/away games against division rivals. IMO in 16/18 team conferences, it's not important to play everyone annually.
At what point do you just play everyone once? 15 conf games not much different than 18...You have to play everyone at least once. I really miss the true round robin, but that ship has sailed unfortunately
Yeah, if the MVC played their tournament 45 minutes away from a top program's campus, they'd artificially increase attendance too.Sioux Falls does have the Denny Sanford PREMIER CENTER that has a seating capacity of 10,600 for basketball. If two schools opt to play a neutral court game in Sioux Falls, they can schedule the game at either the PREMIER CENTER or the smaller SANFORD PENTAGON with a capacity of 3,250.
What point am I trying to prove?Yeah, if the MVC played their tournament 45 minutes away from a top program's campus, they'd artificially increase attendance too.
Sucks that the two most energized fan bases are the two furthest away.
You're not proving the point you think you are
18 Big 12 (seems that's going back down, sadly in my book)
1 Purdue
1 Iowa
3 Las Vegas tournament
= 23
...so eight (8) cupcake games?
Am I missing anything?
The Pentagon would be so much fun vs Creighton.
Just start conference earlier. There were multiple points pre conference play where we had a week off, which would probably be better served for when the calendar starts over.Having 18 games when it was 10-team league w/ double-round-robin, it's perfect. Expanding to 16-team conference, you can get more variety, but downside is fewer occasions each season playing home/away.
In traditional sense, 20 still seems like "a lot of conference games," but closer to matching reality than randomly dropping to 18.
I'd hope it doesn't mean we'd have 8 cupcakes, as your math accurately suggests. Either keep the two Big 12 games or replace those with two opponents at least close to similar quality.
If you're going to play a neutral-site game against a team from out west, might as well play at Tyson in Sioux City (7,000+) or Mid-American in Council Bluffs (7,000) instead of the Pentagon (3,250).
A new home and home!
Guilty as charged. Cant helpbut be weird.
Why do you have to play everyone once? Not a requirement for FB and other sports. Especially since there is a season ending Big12 Tournament to determine a Champ. And the Big12 will typically send 7+ teams to the NCAA Tournament. You have to play everyone at least once. I really miss the true round robin, but that ship has sailed unfortunately
