That bigger town list is incredibly lazy. You have to put in some pretty miserable road time to concieve a list like Turn2's worst 10 list. Here ya go:

10. Ayrshire
9. Chelsea
8. Schleswig
7. Olin
6. Ricketts
5. Hornick
4. Bode
3. Delta
2. Pierson
1. Kiron

If any of these upset you, God help you.

Ha, Fart Dodge does suck.

In the last few years, we've (yeah, I live in Fort Dodge) been overrun with "voucher" folks from Chicago. The level of shootings/drug arrests/theft has gone up considerably. Thanks to all those who helped make that happen.........

Fort Dodge isn't nearly as bad as it used to be. With the packing plants gone, and the gypsum mills running low, we are getting more and more into agricultural industries. Those salaries are far higher than the blue collar jobs of the 70s and 80s, and better neighborhoods are coming along nicely. The town has even begun cleaning up some of the worst neighborhoods, too....

I almost died one time driving by Chelsea on my way back to ISU in the winter on 30. That little diagonal road to get there is a death trap.

I haven't heard of any of these towns, however I do know from visiting CF that Bode sucks.

Everyone likes to rag Iowa City because of the rivalry, but it's a pretty nice town with a lot of amenities.

Saying it's a **** hole in the way these other towns are is pretty ignorant.
It's a festering **** hole full of **** heads who smell like ****. Shittiest part of the entire ****** state

Kiron is horrible. Ricketts too. Along with Schleswig. All to familiar with these three towns.

I grew up across the river from Keokuk. When I was a kid going to town meant going to Keokuk. I was back for a wedding like a year ago and holy hell has it went downhill since the '90s. There are buildings on Main Street that are seriously falling in on themselves. It used to be a great town with a lot going on considering the size.

Now I live in Waterloo, outside of a 5 block radius it's fine. They've really done a lot downtown to clean the place up. Single Speed in the old Hostess factory is amazing and the Irishfest that just got over last weekend is a great time. It's not the dump is used to be.

The meth lab to person ratio in Kiron and Ricketts has to be like 3-1. IMO Schleswig went down hill after they closed the drive inn on the North side of ton. I too am way to familiar with this area.

I think I80 through Counciltucky has been under construction since I moved to Omaha nearly 20 years ago. I haven't been through Sewer City in over a year. You're saying it's still under construction?
Yep...although they are down to the middle piece that winds its way past the scenic Missouri River and downtown area...should be done by the time my kid's kids finish college (both my kids are unmarried and childless (as far as I know).

Maquoketa is the surprising one on that list. Always seemed nice enough to me.

I agree I cant recall a bad experience in Maquoketa and we are there maybe 6 times a year (we live 30 minutes away). I have no idea if this was part of the criteria or not but (yes every non 4A school goes through this) but their sports culture has been low for the last 5 years They use to be a constant sports threat in eastern Iowa but what ever is going on in that town has trickled down to their sports culture. Hopefully it is a generational thing and they get themselves straightened out because again, it is a relatively pleasant and safe town.

This would have been perfect if you had left out the yellow oval and orange text. Everyone in the state finds reason to bad mouth other parts of it. Growing up in the north we used to always say we could give the southern tier of Iowa counties to Missouri and raise the average IQ of both states.

EDIT: By the way, this almost partially happened:
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Honey_War

I know it was kind of a joke, but when you're bad mouthing 95% of the state it helps if you know how to spell 'economy'. And 'because'.

I came through Sioux City when I moved to Ames for school, 10 years ago this month. Go through a couple times a year when I go home.

I don't know when it started, but that same stretch of I29 along the river has never not been under construction. I can't even remember them switching the lanes that traffic can drive on, so theoretically they may not even be half done yet.
