Not exactly sure.
I wasn’t paying much attention and asked my 15 year son, this is DMX isn’t it? He told me he had no idea. I felt kinda good on that.

Wasn’t that yung gravy or lil baby crap he throws on once in awhile.

2023 will be the 20th anniversary of the release of X Gon' Give It To Ya.

It was pretty awesome. My son said it was excellent, but no one in the student section around him got it.
The “X gonna give it to you” song was also used in Deadpool which I think should be pretty well known in the pop culture of college students.

To be fair tho, I’m on the on the young side here and even though I had heard that song in Deadpool I didn’t know it was DMX until CW played it on a podcast referencing Hutchinson.

Well, maybe not all the lyrics. A large percentage of our crowd is white and shouldn't say some of those lyrics. can

Know a gal that does a lot of karaoke, and she always subs in "brother" which I thought was a clever way to square that circle.

Yeah, the crowd needs to be studying and learning the lyrics to X Gon' Give it to Ya over the next couple weeks. Well, maybe not all the lyrics. A large percentage of our crowd is white and shouldn't say some of those lyrics. Hopefully we can get the chorus down:

First we gonna rock, then we gonna roll
Then we let it pop, go, let it go (what)
X gon' give it to ya (uh), he gon' give it to ya
X gon' give it to ya, he gon' give it to ya
They’re literally using the chorus in a TV commercial that played a lot during college football this weekend. I can’t tell you what the product is, but if they’re using a song in commercials, it’s not that obscure.

(Although I admit I probably hadn’t heard it prior to this weekend, although I do understand the reference, as Steve Rogers would say … it’s not the style of music I listen to)

The world is going to hell.

Kids these days don't know American core values like DMX and other assorted early 00s hip hop.

Seriously though, I'm not a huge hip hop fan but it is kind of a good "pump up" song regardless of what it means. The fact that it means something cool for X is great.

I wonder can we not play music like that unless the broadcast is on commercial? For legal reasons?

I like to give extremely generic hip hop names to everybody in my life.

Big person:
Lil (insert first name)

Small person:
Big (insert first name)

Old person:
Young (insert first name)

Young person:
Ol' (insert first name)

One of my young cousins knows lots of 90s rock and 80s pop because of various GTA video game sound tracks. I think Dr Dre did nearly an album of new music just for a GTA game recently which speaks to the reach of that.

Every young person is different. When I was in high school in the 90s I couldn't stand the grunge and hip hop all my friends listened to and I was listening to 60s/70s rock, mostly British invasion Beatles/Stones. I'm sure some 18 year old out there is a DMX expert the same way I had unreleased bootlegs of Jimi Hendrix on cd as a teen in the 90s.

Deadpool scene. NSFW although that should go without saying for Deadpool with DMX haha

Because it's "Deadpool" and not "X-Men" even though Colossus is an old school X-Men character the reference was probably lost on some...although that song fits Deadpool and not a main narrative X-Men movie.

I sit in section X this year and someone in the front row is putting up an X along the railing above the ribbon board for each catch he has. Doubt it stands out much when you see it from the other side but kudos for the effort. I know we are trying to start crossing our arms as an X every catch or TD he scores hoping that catches on with the fans around us too. Love the DMX song after the TD, hope we hear it a lot this season!

That’s our group. It was a last minute idea, so we just printed off sheets and used Velcro straps. Hope to have bigger, better ones for X next time. Maybe have done that are circled for TD’s. And maybe even some yellow ones for when the refs make bad calls and take away receptions and/or TD’s!

P.S. Does anyone know the exact location of the yard-o-meter for Troy Davis? I think it had to be in or near Section X.

I think it is a Fongs pizza commercial.

To be honest, I saw the commercial before I got the joke. Pardon my lack of familiarity with the DMX hits.

Heard the touchdown call from Walters today was X marks the spot, which was... Meh. He should definitely say "X is going to give it to you!" clearly annunciating each word and sounding like a dad trying to be hip. It would be so amazing!

Last year I went to the Texas game, X’s first catch I screamed “X gonna give it to ya” one person turned around and high fived me. The next two times he smiled. I don’t think anyone else knew the reference.
