Is it time for yellow helmets?

Remember when we all voted on the new logo and uniforms 3 years ago? We were originally going to have yellow helmets, but it was decided to go with a more "traditional" color. Wouldn't a more traditional color for the helmet be gold? I am in favor of the gold, or anything else that might set us apart a bit more then this mirror of USC look we are sporting now.

You must not remember that clearly, because the helmets were originally going to be white.

I think white helmets would look really bad on our current uniforms. I'd like to see a gold helmet though...

Gold should have been the original choice. But now that cardinal has been chosen I think we need to stick to it. I think it all needs to stay. Maybe a yellow helmet stripe would work but we need to stick with a uniform.

Having said that....we haven't had them long enough to say that they can't be changed up. I think white or grey pants could be added to the mix with a cardinal stripe. Just as a gold jersey could be added to the mix. I don't think it would be gimmicky if they were all used equally.

All sarcasm aside, ISU really needs to pick a uniform (plus logo and colors) and stick with them. This constant changing does nothing to build brand identity. It seems like ISU changes more than any other BCS school out there (with exception to Oregon maybe).

Yeah, but even then, their "O" primary logo hasn't changed...it's just been everything else.

Personally, I think the unis that the Cyclones wore in the 2007 Iowa game are way better than what they have now..especially if they always wore they white...those things were sharp.

Yep, those were the best I have even seen an Iowa State team look. I thought they were going to give us something similar but they didn't. They should have tried to match the golden color of those uniforms. Instead they gave us straight up yellow. Looks like hell, and USC. We should at least go for the gold helps or white outlines on the numbers.

Agreed. The administration needs to stop giving carte blanche when they hire a coach. It's hard to build tradition and history when the slate is wiped clean every few years.
That won't happen, and shouldn't. When a new coach comes on, the quickest way to make a visibile statement about a new, fresh era is to change the unis. We have no real tradition here, so what's the difference? Frankly, Rhoads should have changed the unis when he came here, to erase the culture of Chizik. Keep the logo, fine, but change the unis.

That really pi$$ed me off when we chose a logo (I thought the I-State logo was the worst of them all) on a white helmet, then they unveiled them as Cardinal. Why not just show us the cardinal??? I would've prefered either of the other choices, but we were so high on the ISU/Iowa unis that the I-State was clearly going to win out.
These unis are ugly!!! Did our AD intensionally make us look like USC? So not only are we cellar-dwellers, but we are also trying feabily to pass off as a respectable program. Terrible decision to mimmick another school's unis!!! Be original. I know, I know. ISU has TWO stripes, while USC only has ONE.
Big deal. Other schools will laugh at our pathetic attempt to convince people we are competative.
I am usually very positive about the state of the program and the bright horizons, but I have always been upset with the new-retro look we are going for. Looks like we are saying, "Hey, we might not be known now, but once we break out these new unis everone will be saying, 'Look, there goes some USC nuthuggers'". Weak.

Take this up with Nike not the AD.

Nike must have used up all their creative ideas with Oregon cuz they gave us USC's damn uniforms. It is crap!!! I have a hard time believing we just got a box of equipment in and had no say in the design.
We got all gimmicky (see also Iowa/Pittsburgh) and it looks stupid. Our home unis have no white accents at all. Red logo on red helmet. Looks like some generic unis you would create on NCAA football '04, except I put thought into the unis I create on video games.
Honestly, none of us would think these unis are the bee's knees if we weren't ISU fans. They are a step back from the '06 unis. Apparently they reminded Pollard a little too much of the Mac days.

Who do you think bought all their bells and whistles over there?

Forget new colors, logos, and uniforms. We have changed those things too much already.

What we need are decals. Just like all the attention this board has given to the "ANF" decals that O.R.F. used, and the more recent "FFF" decals. The Iowa game outcome might have been totally different if we had the right helmet decal. Like this one:
