Is Next Year’s Team Honestly Going To Be Any Good?

I think some people were realistic about this being a rebuilding year but you could go back to posts in the pre-season where people said it was insane that we would be picked 9th or 10th. Many posters saying we should finish 5th or 6th and be a bubble team.

We have 8 losses by more than 14+ points this year. The premise that we are close is flawed and based upon two overtime losses to Texas & Oklahoma State. But we haven't been close in the final two minutes in over 33% of the games we have played.

We get a tremendous upgrade in talent next year and that's good because we will need it. However, if a player unexpectedly transfers, declares for the draft or gets injured then quite frankly we will find ourselves in a similar predicament next year.
Well said.

The people were Prohm and Jackson at the Big 12 media day in October. The quote is "no way" when asked about the prediction of finishing 9th in conference this year.

And you just watch:

Life will go on.

They'll be better next sure I just think we need a vocal leader out there maybe Babb or Wigginton to lean on because this year I don't see it.

A vocal leader is always a positive, but what this year's team lacks even more is an experienced go-to/closer. Someone who can take the reigns in the nitty-gritty, has killer-instinct or can spark momentum during stagnant stretches.

That doesn't *have* to come from the leading scorer, and it can involve various positions. But currently we don't have a like Royce, Clyburn, Kane or Niang (last season it was more "closer by committee," with Monte as catalyst).

I have a feeling ISU will have more of those beginning next season, as Wiggi/Lard become more seasoned and new talent infused.

This is total emo ********. Go put more black eyeliner on. It’s just you being whiny. I could go through and make the exact opposite claims point by point and it would have the same validity as your hot **** takes. The reality is somewhere in the middle like it always is.

So what are your expectations for the team next year? Do you expect to make it to the NCAA tournament?

Re-focusing on part of the thread title: ".. will next year's team be any good?"

Maybe it's unfair to cherry pick key words in the topic. However, it suggests ISU might be less-successful next year compared to this season. I honestly don't foresee that happening.

Thanks for the update; because of my business travels, I can cash in my hotel points, so I just need game tix, but I was concerned that, with many high-major teams and a small gym (is it something like 5K capacity, or smaller?) there would only be tix available to big donors. Yeah, a Hawaiin vacay would be nice for my third time, but I really wanna see my Clones :)
you can't get just game tickets. you have to get rooms at their hotels in order to get tickets to the games, currently. later there may be an option for tickets only but i wasn't willing to risk it so booked through their package option. just an FYI.

I fully expect ISU to be in the tpurney next year
Depends on what success they have in the Big 12. Once again, Big 12 will be deep from top-to-bottom, and ISU will be a young team compared to other teams in the conference.

We don't know what the conference will look like next year but I fully expect us to be in the tourney and it would be a big disappointment if we weren't

If I had to guess teams that will be a lock next year for the tourney: KU, Baylor, Texas and K-State. The rest have ?'s around the teams...
TCU-? This is wildcard and not sure what to expect
WVU? Lose some Sr's but Huggins does a good job getting his team to the tourney
OSU ? Their full team returns
OU? Top guy goes NBA
TT? Loses a good amount of their scoring
ISU? Depends on Sr leadership from Babb & Shayok.Got good young talent, just question how long it all gels together

How are those 3 teams locks for the tourney? Baylor is losing their two best players!

How much research did you do?

Oklahoma St. loses 3 of their top 5 players (Including top 2, Carroll is really good).

Not sure why you have Baylor as a lock for the tourney as they lose their top 3 players and Maston.

TCU should be tough again but loses their top 2 players.

I'm really rooting for Lewis I think hes got a ton of potential. But he looks so timid out there and just an overall lack of aggressiveness on defense. Hope he can make strides like Naz did going into his soph year.

Lewis reminds me of Matt Thomas a bit in his freshman year. Matt got more playing time, but their demeanor is about the same. A bit timid on offense and a liability on defense, but you can see the ability is there once the lightbulb comes on.

K-State has basically everyone coming back and will be a solid team. Texas they will have everyone come back, except Bamba and will have a deep team. Baylor has a solid core behind those guys and Scott Drew finds a way( made the tourney 9 out of the last 10).

While true that the Clones have suffered several double-digit defeats, it is also true that they have dealt both WVA and TTech their only double-digit losses of the season. You can shape numbers almost any way you want.

I see improvement, and experience gained. I for one am very upbeat about next year's team (and this year's, too).

Yeah, the standard deviation on this team is wild. When it is good, it can be very good, but it can be very bad some of the time, as well, even within games.

This is not like the McDermott teams, which were always just "meh."

I agree with you the Baylor "lock" is a head scratcher, but I'd be really surprised if Texas and K-State didn't make it.

The Baylor one makes no sense. I agree that Texas and K State should be in but I'll never give Weber a "lock status". Bamba will be gone and who knows about Jones for Texas so there are some question marks there and there only a bubble team this year anyways
