Is Purdy the guy?

I might be misunderstanding what you're saying but there's no way both DM and Butler don't leave for the draft this year.
I’m asking what are we taking a step back from.

With early departures it’s likely next year won’t be as good as it would with an experienced Purdy with DM and Butler behind a good OL, but you cannot take a step back from something you never had. All three have only played once, behind a developing OL, and we scored less than the week before.

If the OL improves and the young skill guys are as good as they seem, we’ll be as good as we’ve seen thus far.

I’m sure that the passing game will take a decided step back, just as it did in losing Lazard.

We are getting some pretty talented recruits. With Brock Purdy running things I am not too concerned. The Kid is the Real Deal. Brock Purdy really spreads the ball around . And the connection between Milton and Purdy keeps getting better.

Not so sure that Montgomery and Butler go pro. Giving up your last season to be a mid round pick at best is not a good decision IMO.

Maybe I needed a jimlad again.

At the start of the season, some were complaining that without Lazard, we wouldn’t have a go-to guy. I think that against WVU, Butler erased any lingering concerns—again and again and again.

No idea who that will be next year. But there’ll be someone.

Don’t kid yourself, the growing pains from losing Lazard greatly contributed to our three losses and not having his jump ball ability and blocking damn near necessitated needing a different type of QB. The situation isn’t too comparable either.
Sure, maybe 6 games in next season someone will have emerged to be a similar mismatch, but at this time last year Butler was already a mismatch and the apparent next go-to guy.

We did struggle early without Lazard. But now it seems the struggles had more to do with QB and the O Line. The WR group can make big catches if the ball is in a catchable location. And with Purdy we are not getting drops of easy throws. Purdy is accurate and receivers catch the ball in stride.

The one thing I learned from the TV guys was about him having mono his junior year.

It sounds like in this instance mono worked in our favor.

We will have to use the TE more next season without Eaton and potentially Butler. Losing Montgomery will also affect the passing game
