Is Texas Tech in Lubbock a trap game?

Every non-marquee game is a trap game. Heck, every game is a marquee game unless it is against Tech or TCU....I see it as the team has 3.5 days to rest, get back into studies, and get ready for the game....If they take care of business, no problem. We all want a blow out on Sat, but just get the road win, get back to Ames safely and get pumped for Texas on short rest. I think getting up for Texas on home Big Monday will not be an issue though.

It is just amazing what this program is doing for us fans, the school and the state!

That about sums it up in conference this year.

I'm not sure I would call it a trap game, because as others have said......in this league this year, every game could be described as a trap game. If any team is looking past the next game on their schedule, it will probably cost them. I see one chance for a blow-out game for ISU this year in conference.......maybe when they play TTU in Ames......that's it. Other than that I think most games will be nail-biters and decided by 10 points or less. Hopefully that will prepare the Big 12 teams for the NCAA......and not just wear them out.

They'll be fine, but Texas coming to down on one day's rest isn't ideal.

Well Texas is playing KU on Saturday so as far as rest issues ISU should come out ahead of they take care of business the way they should and get the reserves in.

Ugh, this game has danger written all over it. This is just an absolute must win if we are going to win the league. You just can't give away a game with TTU. That said, it is a game against a bottom feeder opponent in an awful atmosphere on the road, so it would be easy to come out flat. Especially coming off of big wins against KU and KSU and having UT on big Monday looming. I don't see us winning this as easily as we should, but I do think we bring home a W.

My exact thoughts. Empty, unenthusiastic gyms tend to keep inferior opponents in games against us. I want to see a 20-25 point lead at half, extend it to 30 about 2 minutes into the second half and then coast.

Man we have a lot of 2 days. Is that common? Don't recall this many Mondays.

Tech/@OU
@KSU/OU

What really sucks is all of them have a road game. And the tougher team is always on the Monday.

I'd be less worried about this game if we didn't witness a loss down there a couple years ago. Obviously very different teams since then, but it makes you realize anything can happen.

That said, our guys will go down there and take care of business. They've got their eyes set on a conference championship and know they have to take every game seriously. Also, Hoiball.

It's common for good teams that ESPN wants to showcase.

I don't think its a trap game but its just as important as the KU game at home. Really, really need conference road wins to win the conference title.

These are the games that if we don't win, we can kiss a chance at a conference title goodbye.

I agree with this so hard I had to quote for emphasis. For a team like ISU in a league like this road wins are solid gold. You MUST win the one's you "should" win.

Always is. It's like playing in a mausoleum.
I have heard several players talk about how hard it is to play in Lubbock because the crowd is so dead it is like doing a walk through before a game. Add in the general grossness of being in Lubbock and most players are to just get in, grind out a win and get out as quick as possible.

I see a maturity level with this team that won't allow that to happen. They've learned a bit from the Maryland loss and the South Carolina loss. TT is not good, and if we play with any kind of intensity, it should be a 20 point win.

I'm seeing a defensive intensity with this team that none of Fred's previous teams had. McKay is certainly a major part of it, but Nader and BDJ are also in the mix on a regular basis, whether by blocked shots or steals. It almost seems that what those three are bringing on defense is rubbing off on the veterans and the result is a new toy that Fred can utilize when needed (actually, in every remaining game).

I think it all depends on ISU. We know that we are a way better team, on paper and with the human eye.

But if we come out chonging threes and moving in cement shoes Tech can and most likely will beat us. We can't afford another start like we had with Baylor on the road,

It's up to the team to grab the right mindset before playing.

I really don't think we can complain about the schedule. Getting to play on Big Monday is showcase for the program and comes with success. The opponent is going off 2 days rest too.

I think it is an advantage getting to play a weaker BI2 opponent (TT) even on the road and then get a possible conference contender at home on Big Monday. Should be a comfortable win even if the guys don't all bring their A game. Compared to Texas who has to play Kansas (must win for home game for them) and then travel to Ames and get back up for Hilton.

Actually looking at it TCU is more of a dangerous trap game than the Tech game in my opinion. Hard for the team to not be looking past the Frogs on to Kansas. TCU is more dangerous than TT (fortunately that one is at Hilton).

Speaking of defense, Georges is never going to land on any all defensive teams, but he has gotten much better at staying with guys on the perimeter, at least enough to get his guy to pass off, or enough in his help defense to ward the guy off and then get back to his man. Just looks quicker in that regard, and I'm sure his new conditioning helps that a lot.

Is this a trap game for.us Saturday? After two hard fought victories at home & Texas coming in for.Big Monday next week it would be easy to lose focus. I know Tech is.winless in the league.but are they that bad? They play at Okie St tonite which should be another loss. I'm not sure what to make of this game Saturday.

It's the definition of a trap game.
