I feel like this thread happens every year and then the result is people are mad when we get a seed or two higher than they think we should be in the tourney.

If we lose out, and then lose our first game in the Big 12 tourney, I think we could be in that 8-9 game, and we'd deserve it too. Probably more likely a 7 seed, but we wouldn't deserve it.

Clockwork.

This team is kinda reminding me of the last Tinsley team. Just kinda burned out and not that excited to play anymore. When shots fall they get energized but the default setting is "meh".

I am hoping its the lost chance at the regular season title that bummed them out, but I am afraid it is probably deeper than that. But maybe the NCAAs will rejuvenate them a bit.

I am depressed yet hopeful at the same time. I am sure the Germans have a word for that...

It could just be that we are playing fairly good teams.

I think it was fool’s gold to think we could win the conference.

We are a good team that wins some and loses some. This year it is just magnified because we win the tough road games and lost a few at home.

But this team is not much different than any ncaa team we’ve had in the last 10 years.

I pity those that can’t enjoy this season at all.

Do a little research before you post stupid **** like this.

First off, look at the bubble. Per Lunardi, Oklahoma is in with a 10 seed and is 6-10 in conference. TCU is in at 6-10. St. Johns is 8-9 in a very bad Big East and is in.

Second, we have some real good wins on our resume. @Tech. @KSU. @Ole Miss. Kansas. Those are great wins.

We could lose our next 3 games by 40 and be safely in.

Bubble is as bad as i've ever seen it.
I don't even think Oklahoma or TCU is on the bubble.
Indiana is still being talked about.

We won't drop below an 8 seed.

Texas currently is projected a 9 seed. 5-8 vs Quad 1.

We will be in the 5-6 range.

Guys, the real question here is (and maybe it deserves it's own thread): say we lose out, then would it be better to be in the NIT and have a shot at the 1 seed there? I mean gotta be better for morale? Amirite?

We have two games remaining in conference play. And to be perfectly honest with you, dropping these last games look more predictable than winning them. Say we lose the first round of the Big 12 tournament, are we really expected a bid with the big dance? I don’t think so.. Thoughts?

Then we could have a better chance to play for a national championship. Just ask the hoks.

Because that's what we would "deserve" lol

Especially when it could lead to a win or two, and that would make them really mad to see Iowa State win games in the dance.

I don't think that is it at all. I think many fans on this website don't understand how the NET, Kenpom, Quadrant victories work. They aren't educated like many of us. The same people that saying Iowa State will be a 8/9 seed are the same people that think Texas is going to miss the tournament because they have 13 losses. Doesn't work that way anymore but they haven't re-educated themselves since the days when you needed 20 wins and a .500 record in the Power 5 conference.

If we get a 7 seed, we will have deserved it. That's the whole point. We were talking about 2/3/4 a month ago.

Agreed. So many people get locked in on the AP Poll and think that a loss automatically means you drop a seed line or 2. In reality, losses on the road to decent teams don't really affect your seeding. Good wins always trump expected losses. And while many fans expect us to go 31-0, losing at Texas was a toss-up at best. The committee doesn't use a metric for whining fanbases, so we're good there.

Texas is in with 13 losses easily, the problem you are overlooking though is in about 10 days they will easily have 15 losses, at what point do losses actually start counting towards making the NCAA?

They lose at Tech and win versus TCU at home. They are 17-14 at that point. Even if they lose in the first round of the Big 12 that would be against Kansas, KSU or Tech. You can complain about them getting in at 17-15 but they have some great wins. They are no worse than a #10 seed if they split this week.

Dude, you are the most Negative Nancy on here. You need to take a hard look in the mirror and really decide if ISU basketball is for you.

What are you about 20? Nobody who has been a Cyclone fan for a decent amount of time could really be off the deep end as much as you are about this season. #hatersgonnahate

Somebody who is 20 should remember the Hoiberg era.

And this is pretty similar --

Good offensive team, yet goes in lulls sometimes
Shaky defensive team
Playing in a very good Big 12 where no games are easy
Wins some big ones, drops some head-scratchers
Definitely could go on a big run
But could not

What is remarkable to me about the program now compared to the program from 2011 through 2016 is not how different it is, but how similar it is, really.

We would be a 5 seed if the selection show was today, even as terrible as the last few weeks have been. THAT is how mediocre everyone is this year. Teams with overall losing records or who are at .500 are still being talked about as on the bubble. Even if we lose out, we will be no lower than a 7. Too many good wins.
