Is this message board a good thing?

Alright, here's my thing. I can tell you all what I think about the 'state of the program' but who that 'really' ******* matters, gives a ****??

I'll tell you this...the administration doesn't care what us nimrods (yes...with the exception of a slight few, we are all 'nimrods') say.

By past experience of reading this forum, as it's associated with MBB, a great percentage of those posting have absolutely ZERO clue what's going on (I include myself).

I will cetainly admit, right now things do NOT appear to be anywhere close to good (my caveat).

I just wonder...is this, a public and free forum, the best available medium to be a "fanatic"?

There are many on here who exhibit very rational thought (IMO), however the vast majority could be toxic in every sense of the word.

All I'm saying is...if I'm a recruit, and I know there is a FREE site about a school I'm considering, I'd probably check it out (unless my life long dream was to wear a Cyclone uniform)...I mean, '****, I'm only 17-18, right?).

You know what I'd see/read, right?

A bunch of ******* hack posers (I'll admit, I know nowhere near what some other 'few' know. However...you all seem to know everything) who just come on here to bash anything and everything.

It's exhausting. I hate coming on here anymore, unless the topic is "Off Topic". Granted, I read the other ****, but it's the same as eating a double cheeseburger meal, with a large fry, while substituting a 'soda' for a 64 oz double chocolate malt. Addicting as Hell, and at the same time...life draining.

All I'm saying is, if you don't know, why post "insider info" or subscribe to it?

Again, I don't know what's going on, but ****...why speculate, especially when you don't know who might be reading?

I agree with what you said. I think we might be on to something, kinda quiet and not as much ******** when posting at 3:22am.

This is what I'll add.......if it wasn't for message boards, we all probably wouldn't have a clue that an assistant had left or that Colvin is probably gone. We would all not spend time on here reading opinions and we would all probably be a lot calmer about it.

Let's be honest, we all think things are a lot worse after reading 100+ posts about how bad things are and how our basketball team will suck forever.

if i was a recruit, i would take way more seriously my conversations and relationship with the coaches than what ticked off fans have to say. All future recruits need to know that if they bring pride and victories to cyclone nation they will never be forgotten. We love our cyclones. Which is the only reason why we care so much. There is just a really vocal minority that is just ruining it for some of us

When things are good, messsage boards are an advantage.

When things are bad, they are not.

Things have been bad with ISU bball for a long time. Getting rid of message boards won't make ISU basketball good. But making ISU bball good will pretty much take care of the message boards.

If a recruit were to look at the football boards, and the fanbase's positive sentiment about Coach Rhoads, it could only help in the recruitment process.

Bingo.

That said, I'm pretty much ready for a draconian policy in regard to cleaning up negative posting. And I'm as down as I ever have been about the program.

It's a fan site. Don't take it too seriously. I like to stay informed on a combination of the hard facts and the general rumor mill. While I'd certainly prefer that potential recruits weren't reading some of the bs that is posted, I'm not sure how it can be helped without individual self control or tyrannical moderating.

I think you're looking a little too far into things. Hell, the Kansas boards were talking about how Self was recruiting the wrong players, didn't coach with tenacity, and let his players play soft after their loss to UNI. That stuff went on for a week or two.

My point is this. I'm sure the recruits check out the message boards and see what's going on with the school, but if a recruit determines where he is going to play ball for four years of his life based on what a bunch of fans think rather than the coaches, administration, facilities, etc. Do you really want that kid here in the first place? That seems like a pretty stupid way to go about it to me.

I have seen other message boards for teams be 10X worse then this site. Yet they don't seem to have the troubles we do... Coaches getting threatened, fans threatening each other, and on and on. We are not at that level. However, we have a lot of people that have no clue, act like they do, and end up looking like fools.

Yet we are the only school with a message board problem??? RIIIIIIGGGGHHHTTT

lets not blame the fans (again). Pollard and GMac drove this thing into the ground.

Since ISU isn't running across the ESPN scroll like a lot of major schools, I think it's great to have this site as our own sports network. Granted there are some dumb-dumbs but do athletes really read through all the posts, and get offended by some angry kid who watched the team lose the night before?

If that's true then here is my following statement:
"To all 2011 MBB recruits, we will have a new up and coming coach that year. Optimism will be sky high, and Cyclone Fanatic will be full of positive, to the point of absurd, posts of how were going to win at least 20 games. Come to ISU and become an internet legend like Chris Colvin or Lucca Staiger."

Message boards are what they are. I'm not happy with MBB right now, but I've also gotten sick of the negative crap every day. I treat it like a radio -- don't like what you hear, then change the station. I'm sure I'm going to be staying away from the MBB topic for a long time.

This message board == a good thing.
Some of the posters and posts == something less.

I agree with this. I love reading and posting on here, but there has been a ton of negativity lately. Don't get me wrong, some is justified. I am as big a fan as anyone, but I'm not about to start multiple threads on the same topic. It seems sometimes, everything on the front page is all about 'Fire McD" or "So and So is Transferring". It's like some come on, see there are 6-pages of posts on a topic, then think, "I'm not going to read all of these, I'll just start a new thread on the same subject to give my 2 cents"

Maybe something can be done about that. As for recruits, I could care less what internet posters are saying.

A former Georgian peasant agreed with you in 1924 followed by a guy in 1933 from Germany with a funny little mustache who also agrees with you.

A lot of what gets posted here is just news or rumors of news (which often turn out to be legitimate). And lately, negative is where it's at. That's reality.

So what are you going to do? Limit the message board's capacity to discuss or break potential news? Maybe allow a thread discussing how Wilkins is likely coming to ISU, and then delete the last half of it discussing why he may not? The whole idea is asinine.

These negative things are not happening because of an internet message board. The tail isn't wagging the dog. Get a grip.

What's next? First we ban message boards. Then we don't take recruits to games because our fans are negative. Then we don't let recruits talk to current players, because our players hate the coaches. We don't let the recruits talk to local media, because the local media is critical of ISU bball.
