To those "in the know about our athletic dept.", I heard that one of our biggest donors to the athletic department has cut his funding in half until McD is gone. Is this true??

IF that were the case I would imagine the donor would just pony up however much JP would ask for towards the buyout and it would be done.

And, yet another unsubstantiated rumor... I bet that if we win some games at the beginning of the season the donor would be back in the fold.

Better said would be if we win some games at the END of the year he'll be in the fold. My guess? Next year will be a disaster for all the obvious reasons. Recruits know Mac is a lame duck and they will hold off or opt for another College. Not good folks.... not good. IB

I was just asking, isn't that what the forum is for? I'm far from in the know, so I figured someone here would know. I hope it's not.

I thought the same thing...we are supposed to win the games (even next year) at the beginning of the season with the 'tin can' scheduling we have tended to use in recent times.

If I had to bet I wouldn't be surprised. I don't think it is about the money with McD. I actually think JP refuses to make a move, either he still thinks McD can somehow magically turn it around, or he refuses to admit that he makes mistakes too. And big ones at that.

If a move does indeed need to be made next year, this rumor, if true, just gives more support to the school of thought that two replacements need to be made.

Money poorly spent, my friend...there is no reason to reward failure.

Failure!? We are not at failure, mediocre yes. A .500 record is like a C, C's get degrees and you are also just as close to A as an F. I am not happy, just saying it is also not failure. I would say since we were just under .500 we could knock it to a C-. Enough academic analogies?

Sorry, but expectations of .500 for 4 years are not average in my book. The last four years have been nothing short of a failure. Teams don't aim for .500 to get by. I vote this the worst post of the day! All in favor???

We have failed to get to the NCAA tournament, and in the end, that is really the only thing that matters. So yes, we are a failure.

That logic is extremely flawed. Just because you are donating $1 million a year, let's say, doesn't mean you can afford $4 million to donate in one year. Contrary to popular belief, wealthy people don't have an unlimited supply of money.

:biglaugh::biglaugh::biglaugh::biglaugh::biglaugh::biglaugh::biglaugh: Do you realize the reason we're 9 games under .500 with McDermott? Because we beat teams like SIU-Edwardsville, Howard, and Centenary.

Guess what McDermott's Big 12 record is (which is a lot more telling, considering people in your conference are supposed to be at your level)?

18-50

Hopefully you won't think that's mediocre. Once you take out all the crap teams we've played in the last four years, we've barely won any games. We have a 26% win pct against our conference. Yep, that's totally mediocre. Wait no, it's a FAILURE.

Totally forgot to mention that 10 of the 18 wins in conference were against either Colorado or Nebraska, who have been in the bottom 3 of the Big 12 in the last four seasons with us. So once you take that away, we're something like 8-45 against the rest of the Big 12, or about a 15% win percentage.

This just in...we are perrenial dwellers in the bottom quartile of our league.

We are one of the very few BCS programs to go to no postseason whatsoever during the last fours.

Put that within the context of the prior 25 years or so of our program and, yeah, the last four years are an unmitigated failure.

Plus, I remember all of the talk when McDermott was hired and WM shown the door about how ISU was going to "do things the right way" under GM and he was going to bring "stability" to our program.

If the last four years are evidence of "doing it the right way" and of program "stability" then sign me up for doing it the wrong way and program instability.

Negative. I was done talking about basketball until the Hamilton's dad thread popped up. The secretive nature of the Good Old Boys Club brought me back. I had to thank Snowcraig2.0 for bringing a little truth back into the mix.
