By those measures, watch out for the return of Harvard and Yale.

Again, you miss the point. For example, lets say Darien DeVries has offers from both schools. In my opinion, he goes with Mizzou, and I don't think its even close. My initial point, and the point I am trying to make you understand, is that Mizzou being open at the same time hurts KSU. I'm not discrediting the KSU job, I just think the Mizzou job is more attractive.

Also, I can find lists that disagree with your list: https://www.ksdk.com/article/news/s...recently ranked the top,of the home of Mizzou.

Past 20-years
Missouri 358-288 55%; 0 conference c'ships; 3 top 25 finishes; 7 NCAA appearances
K-State 381-269 60%; 2 conference c'ships, 4 top 25 finishes; 9 NCAA appearances

That isn't enough to differentiate between the two for a coach IMO.

Also Mizzou can pay way more than KSU. That would tip anything their way when being considered by a coach.

I agree with this. KSU has better fan support for sure.

Mizzou has been more successful the past 30-40 years though for whatever reason.

KSU's fan support tanked this year. Is it coming back? We don't know.

Can we also agree that Mizzou has some cess pool culture and environmental issues that are not being resolved in our lifetimes?

Yeah. KSU doesn't seem like a dysfunctional institution, and unlike Mizzou is also still affiliated with their main historic rivals.

We can argue about all these measurables and standards ad nauseam, it won't matter. What matters is who gets the best coach. For me, I want to see State hire Jerome Tang. What Missouri does is then immaterial.

Why’s that?

It’s not like Tang is a sure fire success hire.

They most certainly could. They just had a record year in athletic donations (somewhere north of $50 Million), with some large one-time donations.

Mizzou cashes in a bunch of those walmart checks don't they?

It'll comeback it's like ISU in that respect, give ISU a glimmer of hope and we are back in. KSt is the same way.

As much as people on this board like to rag on KSt it's a really super similar to ISU athletic wise.

Yeah, we just didn't have the opportunity to see Hilton at the program's rock bottom due to COVID.

It would have been pretty bad last year. 0 student section for sure.

surly thinks K-State is a top 3 job in the conference and ISU is a bottom 3 job though.

Mizzou is a better job. They are in one of only 2 conferences that will generate tons of cash for years to come. They have a lot more HS talent in the state than Kansas does. They are the only P5 school in the state. Yes, K-State probably has more basketball fans but if Mizzou starts winning the fans will show up. With the NIL and the future of college sports looking more and more like money is going to be a bigger issue, Mizzou is just in a much better spot.

Well, that's probably true. After all, I wrote earlier that these are equal gigs. What matters is who is coaching.

But don't write that Missouri is a better basketball program than K-State's because that's patently false by any measure.

Last 10 years:

Missouri 151-168 47% 2 NCAAs
K-State 184-147 56% 4 NCAAs 1 Conference championship
I wrote Missouri is a better program?

IMO the Big10 & SEC money is a bigger factor for football than basketball. With hoops a good coach can develop a solid program on a national scale. Just look at the Big East, Gonzaga or Mountain West.

On paper I agree that Mizzou should have the advantage vs. KSU regarding recruiting because they should be able to draw kids from St. Louis & KC. But it seems that over the last decade or so, the best St. Louis kids don't consider Mizzou.

Selecting the right coach for schools like KSU, Mizzou (and Iowa State) is not an exact science. So, the argument of which school is better is splitting hairs. In both situations a successful coach is going to have to draw recruits from outside Missouri or Kansas to be successful.
