Campbell again will try to out Iowa, Iowa. Will lead to dumb mistakes, short fields, and easy points for Iowa.

24-13 bad guys.
I keep seeing this narrative. It’s so…shortsighted, I can only hope it’s the same person repeating it again and again.

Campbell has repeated his mantra of “players, formations, plays” again and again. He’s gone with the strength of his team, which was dual tight end formations with a good running back, because that was what gave him the best chance to win.

That not mentioning that the offensive “tackles” have needed help on the edge. The wideouts just weren’t there to do anything different.

This year those tight ends are gone, and the combination of Hutchinson, Noel and Stanley represents a different strength. Which is what the gameplan will play to.

Oh, and Iowa is a bit short on wide receivers, let alone QB play. Jon Heacock will absolutely eat that up.

For betting purposes, I would be concerned with the refs for this game. Iowa got so many breaks from the refs yesterday it was unimaginable. Holding not called, could have been several times. Targeting upheld? The announcers and the rules analyst all agreed it was not targeting. Replay showed it was not targeting. But the call.....Targeting! You can book it, these same B.S. calls are happening next Saturday.

I still think the pressure is squarely on Iowa. Nobody expects ISU to win. When you are favored and expected to win, the pressure is on you, not your opponent. The pressure was on ISU last year because they were favored.

I get the argument that the pressure is on ISU because they have not beat Iowa since 2014. I just don’t think the players and staff will feel pressure based on the past results.
Iowa's offense is the laughingstock of the football universe. There won't be much pressure on Iowa and there will be a lot of pundits/bettors picking Iowa State.

With ISU starting over in so many spots they don't have much pressure either.

Give me a matchup with so many unknowns any year for this game.

I sincerely hope you prove right. I have my doubts. Just been too long so easy to be pessimistic on our chances.

The line this year is right on.
The line last year should have been double digit Iowa (cant remember what it was).
ISU has to simply break even on both penalties or turnovers and they win by 3.

ISU being able to drive out of horrible field position will be crucial. If ISU can avoid Iowa scoring off good field position because of ISU having to punt deep in their territory, then take 7 points from Iowa.

Uhhh... no. Campbell ain't getting heat from anyone. We're damn lucky he seems to really enjoy coaching at ISU and hasn't left for another opportunity. I don't care how many times he loses to Iowa.

There's a few 80s/90s ISU (closet Hoks?) fans that never would answer if winning a Fiesta Bowl was bigger than beating Iowa and yearn for CPR because he beat bad/marginal Iowa teams, but yeah, the proof is there:

A full season of ISU winning more often than not should be fine.

Iowa State will start slow on defense, allow Iowa to get into their zone blocking, and commit silly penalties with 1/2 costly turnovers.

Iowa special teams will have Dekkers start inside our own 20. Our freshman kickers will make mistakes. Iowa wins 13-7. ISU gains over 100 more yards in total.
