We got this.

Finally... it only took 9 posts before someone had the balls to be confident in this ISU team. Did anyone watch the Texas game last night? Felix rolled his ankle, Holmes had his ankle rolled up on, and IIRC it was either Holland or Yancy rolled an ankle as well. 3 key players for the Horns with bum wheels against the fastest paced team in the Big XII? Add in big fat Ridley trying to waddle his *** up and down the floor at ISU's pace... Uh oh...

I like ISU's chances a lot and I don't care how hungry or desperate Texas is...

Way up there
Texas was lackluster the first 30 minutes or so last night, Tech had no business being in the game but UT couldn't hit enough shots to put them away early on. I'm not nearly as impressed with last night as most. the only concerning thing last night was that Taylor actually looked like a PG. Monte has played him pretty well in the past, I can see Taylor getting a little too into the matchup with MM and forcing things. The key to beating Texas is just hitting shots. They can't score, having Felix with a banged up ankle will hurt in a match up against ISU. He's one of their better scorers, they will need every bit of it tonight.

I'll throw a few bucks on Texas (moneyline) to salve my wound if we lose.

I've done this before, hedge my bets. It almost certainly guarantees an Iowa State win so I lose money. If it wasn't so expensive I'd do it every game in a season. Don't do it with ISU as an underdog though. Almost certainly guarantees a loss where we cover. Thus I lose both.

Sky is falling, we are going to lose. ISU has no chance.

Maybe if we lost by 1000.
Otherwise, the 3 is pretty locked in.

All that said, we're fine tonight. It's just too bad that Vegas got Texas' hopes up.

I think I agree on being locked in to the 3, but Omaha is definitely in play depending on how ISU performs in the tournament.

I wouldn't think so. Is Texas still a Top 50 team? I don't think it would be considered a bad loss.

Yes, they are top 50, and if we lose to them tonight they'll definitely be in the Big Dance, so it wouldn't be a bad loss.

I'm less confident than everyone else who says if we lose tonight we are still guaranteed a 3 seed. I think that is more dependent on what happens in the ACC tournament and the rest of the Big 12 tournament with teams like Louisville, Notre Dame, Baylor, and Oklahoma. Those four teams, if they all do well, could get 3 seeds ahead of ISU - and that isn't even factoring in Maryland, who is a lock on the 3 line right now, leaving only three other slots for teams like ISU.

Worst case scenario for ISU is a loss tonight plus Baylor over Oklahoma in the Big 12 title and Louisville over Notre Dame in the ACC title. That puts us on the 4 line IMO.

It don't think it would be considered a 'bad loss' by way of seeding as much as it would be a bad loss for momentum going into the NCAA tourney. Confidence is high right now after the OU and TCU, the more the team can build wins/confidence, the better. Like many have stated in other threads, the team did not finish the regular season strong last year, but got their swagger in the XII tournament which had them playing at an all-time high in the NCAA. I'm excited to see Bryce back up his comments to his teammates about playing his best basketball now. Would love to see that be true! Is my work day done yet? It's just starting? ****. GO CYCLONES!

This game reminds me of when we played Texas a few years ago... We were the 3 seed and they were the 6 seed. They desperately needed another win to get in the tourney. We had a good lead in the 2nd half and fizzled. Hopefully we can hold them off this time and move on to Friday.

You must have seen a different game than I did. It was a dumpster fire for 2/3 of the game.

That's what worries me though...I think they had tourney jitters for 2/3 of the game and then that last 1/3 they started getting their confidence and played really well...especially Ridley.

I don't want Ridley getting his confidence...think he's the x-factor...if Taylor is able to get in the lane and have a confident Ridley as an extra option that could be trouble...and open up their 3 point game...

Texas has underachieved most of the season but they started playing well towards the end...they are just the type of team that could make a tourney run...especially with their guards.

If they beat ISU I wouldn't be surprised to see them ride that win to the finals and maybe win it all...although 4 games in 4 days might be too much for them...

according to my cbs sports app, texas is favored by 1.5. Was 2 a few minutes ago.

Must be backwards. Everything I'm seeing shows it opened ISU -1 and has moved to ISU -1.5 or -2 depending where you go.

Tough to beat a team 3 times in a season. Especially a team like Texas that needs to win 1-2 games this week to guarantee itself a spot in the NCAA tourney.

Everyone keeps saying that as if it's carved in stone. Has anyone ever compiled statistics to support this?

For example, didn't Texas just beat TT 3 times this season? For that matter, hasn't KU beaten us and other Big XII teams 3 times in a season on multiple occasions?

If that is the case, would a game vs. Baylor be preferable to playing TX since BU has beaten us twice this season? I for one prefer to play TX who we have dominated on offense twice. I think we match up well against TX but not vs. BU.

Your other point is definitely more of a concern as TX will playing to ensure they get into the tourney, though they may be less desperate now as I think yesterday's win gets them in.

They are what they are at this point. Talented individuals that struggle to score as a team and matches up terribly with ISU. Of the seven tourney teams in the conference Texas is probably the team ISU is going to have the easiest time with. Keep McKay out of foul trouble so he can stick on Turner and they'll be fine.
