For the love of God- this will be like the 18th thread hijacked by the never-ending Battles vs. Hickory Park debate... now it's my turn- I think Hickory Park blows Battles away, but most folks say Battles has better sandwiches. I myself love a place that serves beef ribs. Where else can you find that???

If I am hungry for BBQ before/after a game, my first choice: Hickory Park.
A VERY close second choice: Battles. Both are pretty darn good in my opinion, but what tips the scale in Hickory Park's favor is I love their Salted Nut Roll sundae (or their chocolate malt with an extra vanilla wafer thrown on top).

Hello. I'm new here. My family and I are looking into making the drive from KCMO to Ames for the ISU/OSU game in November. We plan to stay in town for the weekend and explore the campus a little and take in the atmosphere. I had a few questions for ISU fans...where would be good places to eat, stay and sightsee? Also, would you consider the atmosphere at ISU games to be family friendly? Our children are 1 and 7 years old. We figured on getting the hillside seating and staying towards the back. Thanks, in advance.

My advice would be to book the hotel as soon as possible. The last thing you want is to have to stay in Ankeny or Des Moines. If you can find a place on University Blvd, that would place you a couple of minutes from the stadium. Otherwise, if you want to be by campus, the Memorial Union has a hotel...it's a little dated, but clean. That is right on campus and probably a 10-15 minute walk to the stadium.

The tailgate lots open 6 hours before kickoff and the public lots are plenty of fun. If you don't plan on grilling, you can just walk through the lots and I'm sure people will be offering food and beer. Nov. 7 still has a chance to be decent weather, but you never know. That's always the key to what the tailgating is like for those late games.
