ISU second half defense this year.

Let the 'ISU needs to get out to a fast start this week' threads commence.
I thought the WVU would had been the one game they needed to come out fast to make WVU a passing team.

Apparently all it took was one defensive series to make the right adjustments. The professor just taught me another lesson tonight: Never doubt the professor

Heacock has to be the front runner for assistant coach of the year at this point, right? With what he’s done with this defense considering the losses we’ve had, this has to be noticed eventually. And it’s not like this is being done with the talent taking over. It’s the coaches adjustments that are just shutting teams down after the 1st quarter.

I know this wasn't intentional, but it almost looked like a rope a dope strategy where Heacock was watching how things played out and making mental adjustments. While we the fans may get apprehensive/anxious about the slow starts, it doesn't look like the coaches and players are, which is what really matters.

Well, it is good for everyones heart health that way....

Although if ISU jumps up to a 14-3 lead and it gets close, folks are going to have a hard time there too. 'What happened to the first half team? They didn't even show up!' and so on.

Personally I get more nervous if it's a big lead and the other team starts to tilt the game and come back in the 2nd half after things have settled in.

A first half of feeling things out is fine by me.

And again like last night, if ISU hits that first field goal there's nothing wrong with a 7-3 1st quarter.

I like the first quarter feeling out. Going into the half with the lead and momentum is just fine by me.

I observed the facial expressions and body language of the WVU QB throughout the game. Started out looking very confident, like, we've got this one. By 4Q he was looking beat-up and bemused, constantly staring at video boards to see what the heck just happened / went wrong!

Our guys steadily ground WVU down. And we did it at their place! Impressive.

As a Vikings fan, jumping out to big leads early only to see them slip away in the second half and barely hold on is very nerve-racking.

This was very evident last week as well. ISU is just piss pounding people in the trenches. Even Jackson is looking for somebody to lay the wood to when he has the ball.

I’m glad this has continued. I was nervous with the helmet communication change. Some discussions has been we’ve been really good due to stealing signs after learning them in the first half.

2nd half defense is amazing. But honestly the 1st half defense is solid too.

Well said. EVERY game I am beside myself watching the opposing team march down field scoring a touchdown. Watching the 3 man front get carved up and pissing and moaning about not playing more 4 man front. Then watching the professor start bringing linebackers and safeties up and shutting the opposing offense down. I don’t even say anything anymore.
