So just to recap:
-sounds like this guy was probably hanging around the homeless camp along the trail near Coldwater.
-She was likely walking from hole 8 to 9 when he saw her or approached her.
-No apparent screams or noise heard by anyone around, but according the KCCI interview her hat/ball marker were found on the ground, so possibly some sort of struggle.
-He either snuck up on her and completely subdued her, or he approached her and she didn't think anything of it until it was too late.
-a couple posts on here state possible stabbing or attempted sexual assault
-then apparently he put her in the pond, likely right near the #9 tee box.

Just awful. From a golf perspective, those old guys did the right thing letting her play through. Just makes you wonder if this would have happened had she stayed behind them....I guess it's possible since this sicko still had the nerve to do it in broad daylight and somewhat in view of the clubhouse and apartments.

Horrible.

But the talk of making the homeless leave and blaming them is horrible too. Instead of just telling them to get out things need to be done to help them not be homeless.

And we don’t know that this happened because he was homeless. If you read the complaint, this man was obviously an evil person. His being homeless and apparently staying in the camp gave him the opportunity to commit this murder but he didn’t commit it because he was as living there. I suspect he would have found someone no matter where he was.

I'm guessing that's part of the reason that guy was so upset. The 'what if'. So sad.

This piece of **** evidently had a parent and grandparent who were around. He lived in Iowa. He was homeless because he was a degenerate. That may be harsh but I don't care. We do get to blame the homeless guy for this. This wasn't a veteran with PTSD who didn't have a chance. This was a piece of **** human being who couldn't get his **** together, lead what looks to be a miserable life and since he had no redeeming qualities, probably couldn't draw any intention from the opposite sex so he committed this heinous act. Sorry for the lack of sympathy but there is nothing at this point indicating he didn't have a chance.

I don’t think he was saying anything like what you are implying.

This man committed the crime because he was evil and mentally ill. Being homeless had nothing to do with it. So talk about shipping the homeless out will solve nothing.

I think what Curt was saying, and what others have, is this isn't really about the homeless. Just like the Tibbets case wasn't about illegals. It's about sick individuals that commit a horrible crime.

I am anti-death penalty except for certain cases. This is one of those cases.

Even if 5 years from now the dude has a complete turnaround and becomes a great human being, society will never see it because he will rot behind bars.

Frankly, I think there are worse things than death and I thinking rotting in jail for the next 50 years is a far worse punishments.

Yep. I don't claim to be an expert on homelessness but I've read about the issue and other issues surrounding it, like poverty and mental illness. It's never as simple as tearing down a homeless camp or even just giving them a real place to live. All these issues are complex, they're bundled together, and all need to be addressed in tandem if we really want to solve the problem.

I'm not optimistic on this front, as we have become a society that eschews tackling difficult problems in favor of cheap, easy solutions that look good on political ads but don't really solve anything.

Sorry, I'm a little on edge in regard to this deal. I don't know if it's the golf connection, the ISU connection, the endless stream of this news in Iowa, or what it is but this one really bothers me.

This is the second homeless homicide in the last few years in Ames. The last one wasn’t as popular because I believe it was a homeless man who murdered another homeless man.

I don’t know how to fix the problem. Build a shelter, it’ll bring more in. Move em out, you’re just pushing aside a societal issue.

No doubt. For me, I think the fact that it was in the middle of the day in a public place. I would never assume it would be a problem to do what she did yesterday.
