I have to disagree OldGeezer. The differance between the good teams and the rest is that the rest don't have the SOMEBODY to take the shot. We have 2 players who can drive. Their both freshman who have yet to learn how to finish. We had one last year who could have helped this year but he was a idiot and I'm glad he's not here now. The bigs have to be careful about taking charges because of foul problems. All of these things simply make our team a young team that is growing and learning, just not fast enough for some of the fans.

OK, fine. Just convince me that Cory Johnson is going to improve as much between now and Oct. as Gorney has since Nov.1 Convince me that Brakins is going to improve as much before next fall as Tate has since Christmas. Convince me that these guys plus the recruits are going to come together and start to look like a team with some enthusiasm and leadership. Convince me that they will improve as much in McDremott's 3rd season as Michigan has under Belien in one season.

We will see how the Big Ten does in the tournament. Everything listed above was accomplished while playing conference games.

Seems like the fans on here are willing to settle for close game, good effort, moral victories. No thanks!

I agree. We can talk about next year all we want, but being a Big XII doormat while watching a team like Nebraska knock off consecutive ranked teams (one on the road!) is really tough to stomach..

I just wish we could crush a team like Nebraska. Ohhh,
we did just crush a team like Nebraska.

Crush? We beat them by 8. They just beat two ranked teams in a row, something that McDermott has not done yet as ISU's coach.

The biggest thing I'm disappointed in the game was our defense was terrible. Zeno made us look a step slow and Mac and his staff sure didn't mix it up enough to slow that down, it was really noticiable on TV to the announcers and us the viewers. Our coaching needs to improve during games with Mac and his staff being able to make on the fly adjustments. Days of winning the Big 12 seems long ago.

Really?!?! You need someone to "convince" you that Brackins will improve? You're saying you didn't see anything out of him this year?

- Hubalek: way better over the course of his career and much better improvement under Mac.
- Haluska: walk on now starting and contributing way more than start of year.
- Petey: Same as Haluska
- Clark: ever present warrior for us. adapted to Mac's system and has done very well. Defensive stopper
- Johnson: lots of improvement until hampered by early and mid season injuries.

It would be nice to get some players that we don't have to wait for them to improve to be competitive in the B12.

Haluska needs to start........ he has earned a starting position

I agree and would move Wes back to the 4. Obviosly this means Craig comes off the bench, but I think at this point Petey, Sean, Rashon, Wes and Jiri give us the best chance to win and have the best CHEMISTRY.

Wes would get killed at the 4 with his injury, IMO. Not to mention he needs a lot more size to play that position.

It's time for WJ to either sit out the rest of the way or sit until he's healthy enough to contribute.

The whole "Sean starting or not staring" thing is moot. He's playing well off the bench - why mess with that? I liken it to "Petey vs Garrett starting" discussions. They're all going to see a lot of the floor. Pick a starter and the other guys know it's just a technicality - as they're going to see just as many minutes as the starter and sometimes - even more minutes depending on the flow, who has the hot hand, etc.

It's just nice to see Sean finally start to play up to his potential.

Yeah, cause guys like Oden, Durant and Beasely are a dime a dozen.

I didnt' mind watching Homan develop and improve. By his senior year he was a stud in the league.

That's not what I'm talking about. I'm talking about some Juco's that can come in and have an immediate impact along with our development guys. That's what happened with our 99-00 team. We had Tinsley, Horton, Nurse and they complimented guys like Rancik, Shirley, Fizer, that had gone through the system.

A guy like Appleton with another Juco big could mean a TON to this team.

And all this "improvement" has resulted in exactly how many more wins?
And elsewhere on the thread, a comment about GMcD needed to "change the defense" etc. etc. Well, the problem is GMcD can't go in the game, and the players that are in the game are not getting it done. It's not coaching. All I want to see from now until the season ends is the same hustle, guts, and determination that I see from the Lady Cyclones, all with only five players in the rotation.

Well since we have walk ons starting I'm going to chalk up about all those wins to improvement. Without it we don't win.

Determination, hustle, guts...to me that was Haluska taking it right at Roby (projected 1st round NBA pick) and scoring, and getting the and 1. But maybe you missed that play.
