not sure you can with our neutral game losses early in the season. Purdue still only has 3 losses. We would be right there had we swept Orlando.
Yes but they were early with a young team and a significant injury. We are a significantly better team than we were in November. Purdue is the only one I can see a real argument in that scenario and I just don’t buy Purdue.

Missing Ward was a huge factor. They are still losses, but we aren’t the same team without him.

It took until March to get there.

They weren't even ranked until well into conference season and slowly climbed up as they kept winning.

These things are inconsequential overall but the voters really let that Drake loss hang around. I'd like to see if any other good teams with bad losses got the same treatment that season.

It's wild how the 99-00 team was ranked for fewer weeks than both of the previous two teams; and one fewer weeks than the '87-88 team (which got a 12 seed in the tournament).

Also forgot ISU had a 3-decade AP poll drought from 57-58 to 87-88.

Among other notable notables.

That team had absolutely no respect starting season which is kind of crazy given Fizer would have been a mid to late 1st round pick and came back.

I guess coming off a 15-15 season, it doesn't shock me being ignored, even if retrospectively it seems like a little higher expectation was warranted.

99-00 was odd because of course there was the Drake loss right off the bat, won a few, lost to then-#1 Cincy, then wins vs a lot of nobodies - the next ranked team was at OU (lost in 2OT).

On the other hand, ISU was 18-3 before it finally got ranked. How many 17-3 P5 teams have been unranked (regardless of schedule)?

The Iowa State AP Poll oddity is again Nick Alvarez. Has ISU #14 (lowest of any voter) and Wisconsin at #17. He is one of only two voters to rank Wisconsin and has them #17! He works for an Alabama newspaper in Birmingham so not sure what he his goal is here or if he's just very bad ranking basketball teams.

Man my jaw about hit the floor when that guy told Miller and Condon that the B1G is far and away the premier basketball conference and that it has been for some time. I can't believe Miller didn't chime in on that one...
I happened to catch like 30 seconds of Dan Dakitch (who is an unsufferable douche) talking to Gottlieb, and he said he was watching Princeton and Cornell, who are 2-3 in the Ivy behind Yale, and said those two teams are better than every team in the Big 10 except Purdue, Illinois and maybe MSU.

Johnny Orr brought this program from the ashes, brought Hilton Magic. Everything since then was because of what he started.

Duh!
If I am not mistaken this ties our highest ever ranking, with 2 other seasons getting as high as 6. (2000 and 2001)

edit: 1996-97 and 2015-16 got to 4th

Edit 2: I am only going by AP poll for this. So may be why some numbers are different.

Edit 3: if you go by Coaches I believe 15-16, we got to #2, which I think is the highest ever for that poll for us.
I thought the 2000 teams finished #3 in the final poll

edit: Coach’s poll

We were #6 on Feb 21, 2021 (also week 16)
And we were #6 on Mar 14, 2000 (final poll "week 19")

These are AP rankings
Considering we were 2-15 on Feb 2, 2021 it is quite the accomplishment that we were ranked 6th. Must have had a really hard schedule ;);)

Agree, him and Mettlen need all of our ‘no’ votes on the College Poll Tracker.

They did start the season losing to a BAD Drake team. That didn’t help anything
