I love how all of the guys that said Gene didn't walk into a bare cupboard are listing the names of like 7 guys, 4 of which were seniors, and two of which made the NFL, and one of which was the worst quarterback in the conference last season.

Honestly Baylor has several potential draft picks this season including a first rounder. Are you guys trying to say the cupboard was full for Briles when he took over BU? I'm not trying to blame the loss on Mac because Gene is responsible for this team. But get real. There was a severe talent hole when Gene took over, and if you don't believe me read the articles from Mac's last year where he was looking at Ron Prince-esque amounts of JUCOs. This will take time to build. However I do expect to see results on the field next season including a bowl.

Wow. Pretty big words. Would you tell any of our Mac-recruited players that they "gave up" to their face? Would you? What qualifies you to make such a statement?

I was in attendance at the KU game two years ago, and I think that would qualify anybody to say that they had given up at that point.

Of course I wouldn't say that to anybody's face. What good would it do?

Bryce, I can't give you any more rep, because it says I have to spread it around first.

Thank you for being rational at least. I loved Mac as much as the next guy, but Gene did not inherit a program full of talent. And that it is going to take time, recruiting, and development to turn this around.

But there's a group that just wants to bury Gene, and I think it is for something that was beyond his control (the talent in the program).

I agree that the coaching was bad last night. They really struggled, and had a flat group to work with. But to say that this staff can't improve over time, and this is what we will see for the rest of the time they are here, is silly, and shortsighted.

Gene, like Greg in basketball, needs time to develop the program. Patience, and support are what is needed. Not this crybaby stuff that we make fun of Iowa and Nebraska fans for.

On a lighter note, the last 3 home games should be reminiscent of the 90's where half the stadium will be empty due to us playing horrible and likely bad weather....

Ah nothing like huddling around a fire in an empty parking lot in November, just to go watch ISU get kicked in the jewels....

I am a true glutton for punishment...

In 1995 the last home game against KU I think, there was a snow storm and it was freakign cold there were like 1000 people at that game. Lets hope we dont sink that low.

Welcome to rock bottom. Losing to a bad team in front of 25k of their fans and looking bad doing it. The honeymoon is now officially over for Chizik.

One thing is for sure, it can only get better from here. It's impossible to get worse than being blown out by Baylor.

Hold it bmuff - aren't you paying attention in this thread? Baylor a bad team? Despite going winless in the Big XII last year, blown out by every conference team and thus firing their coach, Art Briles apparently was left with a "ton of talent" just waiting to win! We had no chance!

One quick point to add some perspective. These are college aged kids playing this game. Even USC got beat at Oregon State earlier this season. ISU is not the only team to dial up a klunker of a game this season (and will surely not be the last). I am confident that Chizik and company are not going to mail in the rest of the season as many on this site are apparently doing.

At the end of the day, I'll be a Cyclone fan no matter how bad they get... Can it get worse? On a bright note collegefootballnews.com actually called our next two games "winnable." That is encouraging... I think.

I was really pissed last Saturday, but it's in the past. I'm ready for another day at Jack Trice.

Sounds like Mad TV and Lowered Expectations.

Where are the lowered expectations???

Nobody has lowered expectations. People, may be unrealistic, but the fine people with shovels and an agenda certainly haven't let expectations be lowered.

Never mind facts, and reality of the situation, it is time for a good old Chizik witch hunt. Shame on him for not being able to win 10 games, and compete with Missouri in his second year of taking over a bad program.

1994-1998, 2003, and 2006 were rock bottom. This is called growing pains, I wouldn't expect many of the people with agendas to understand.

How about being able to call a play in 40 seconds without getting a delay of game penalty when the ball is inside the 5 yard line? Or at least having a coach look at the play clock and call a time out if he can't? And if that happens once early in the season, how about correcting it before it happens again and again? Nobody expect Gene to compete with top ten teams (or Baylor either, I guess) in year two, but we should at least expect more organization and discipline than a 3rd grade pee-wee team, which we are sometimes resembling even halfway through the season.

You know what, Monty, I have agreed that the coaches have had terrible moments this season (and last for that matter). I sat there, in the stands Saturday, and felt my blood pressure rise at the incompatent actions of the coaches, and the team.

But there is this amazing thing called perspective. Some people can look at the big picture, and see the reality of the situation.

Now I know that you think that the talent left over was as good as the Cowboys, but some of us realize that it wasn't.

I am OK with the staff growing with the program. We have more good players than we had a year ago. Next year, I expect us to have more good players than we have this year.

If Gene does not grow and improve, and this same thing is happening when we have experience at the key positions, then I will be more than glad to admit that you, and the others with agendas, are correct, and call for a new coach.

But the simple fact is, this program was left gutted, minus the few exceptions that you all want to mention as future all pros. It will take time, and all of the wanna be coaches, who coach pop warner so they think they know more than the coaches at a BCS school, can complain all they want.

Living down here in San Antonio, I have heard too many good things about Gene Chizik from people in the know, to believe that he is as incompetent as you all want to make people believe.

Dude, all I can say is you're comical. An absolute riot.

You're okay with a coaching staff that stands there without calling a play or a timeout while the play clock goes to 0:00? Okay, so they need to grow. What happens when they do it not just once, but they're still doing it six games into the season? You can't blame the talent for that one, we could put Peyton Manning on the field and we'd still lose five yards when we don't call a play.

As far as all the speed and talent that's on the field now that wasn't there two years ago, you're the only one that sees it. Of course you also think we're getting the players to compete with MU and Texas? Maybe we should start with something easier, like competing with Baylor.

You can hear what you want about Gene, and I don't doubt he's a great defensive coordinator. But I'm more concerned with what I see on the field than what some guy hears...and so far, there are reasons to be concerned.

Suddenly losing 3 road games and a close home games means give up to a lot of people. Either that or they are willing to jump to major conclusions about the 'status of the program' or ability of players/coaches from those games alone.

Its hard not to be deflated... especially if you watched the first half! (Fortunately I left for a party hoping that my not watching would somehow create a turnaround for the Cyclones...the opposite of the Kansas game where they were kicking butt until I left to take my girlfriend to the airport. I left at the beginning of the 3rd quarter where they gave up 35 points, when I returned ISU was kicking butt again...but too little too late!)

hope that the game was a combination of the following:

1. Baylor is really not so bad
2. Doesn't ISU always seem to play badly at night (and in rain)?
3. Chizik forgot his playbook and asked the Baylor coach to send in the plays and defensive formations.

Wrong! I agree with him.
