How do you think the '09 victory compares? If Rhoads stays around for a long time (not to put the cart in front of the hourse or anything), that could go down as one of his all-time top 10 victories.
'09 would have to come in well behind '76, '77 and even 2002 -- we dominated in those 3 -------- '09, while a good win was not domination.

Ah man, you're my hero. I've been waiting for years to see that kickoff return again. Camped out in line all night before the game, as a Freshman in'76 I thought that was the way ISU football was supposed to be. And to think - that team didn't even make a bowl game. You still have a lot of convincing to do to make me think that wasn't the best ISU team ever to date.

The Nebraska game put ISU in position for the Orange Bowl ... unfortunately the next week they played a terrible game at OSU, and Oklahoma ended up in Miami.

Still, you could make a strong argument that this was the best ISU football team ever. #2 scoring offense in the country ... the Big 8 had 3 top ten teams and ISU beat two of them. So many great players -- Luther Blue, Wayne Stanley, Dexter Green, Buddy Hardeman, Al Dixon, Tom Randall, Stensrud, etc., etc.

Not the best photo, but thought it was worth sharing. So glad my Dad saved it, I was only 1 year old at the time.
Good one! I had all of those Big Peach sports pages saved at one time, but eventually threw them out. Now I wish that I hadn't!

This has absolutely nothing to do with this game but I've been scanning a lot of old slides lately and here is another view of the athletics complex. This one is from July 1981 when the Airstream convention was in Ames.

DrISU that brings back so many memories. I remember the red print headline. Do you have the actual paper or just a photo? If you have the actual paper we could scan it in sections and stitch the images together to make a perfect replica. I wouldn't mind having something like that!!

Now that is a very nice photo! I remember that Airstream convention being held there. There was a lot of talk about it at the time because I think that it was a national event for them.

The 77 game was probably the most dominating performance by the Cyclones. They dominated in the trenches on both sides of the ball as evidenced by going into Lincoln and out-gaining the huskers on the ground by a 294 to 178 yard margin. A long time husker fan who I ran into late in the game told me that he could never remember husker linemen getting knocked off their feet as often as he saw happen during that game.

Where did you find stats for that game? I poked around the Internet, and didn't come up with anything...
