ISU's Demarion Watson is "stronger" and "smarter" while playing key role off the bench

Both Watson and Pav are role players. Both have value and will have impact.
One thing we can be sure of, TJ and the rest of the staff know more about how each fit and when to use them than ZRF.

How dare CF highlights a player for being ready when his number is called!

Pav has looked overmatched at first but still got off a couple of good looks and was crafty with the ball the other night.

I think he'll hit a shot or two that are really needed for energy/momentum as the season goes on.

Tamin will have some foul trouble games as aggressively as he plays where we’ll need him beside Gilbert for stretches too.

Watson was here last year, right, got some good minutes. Pav is new here, he needed minutes so Coach got him minutes to help bring him up to speed. We need minutes out of both, depending on situations. Getter done.
Go Cyclones.
This was my thought too. I wondered if it was a situation like ~ "We know what you [Watson] bring us, we'll need you in the Big 12, but for now we have to get this new guy [Pav] some minutes and see what he can bring because we're gonna need him too."

Watson seems to almost look less comfortable offensively this year than last year. Love his length and versatility but they need him to develop some sort of threat offensively. Houston wasn’t even guarding him on Tuesday.

Very crafty and confident with the ball (love how he will go right into the paint).

And you are correct, also can be a forgotten guy on a play that gets an easy look from 3

And that's probably all it was.

There's probably similar messaging with Omaha, Pav, etc.

Sometimes, like against Houston on Tuesday, Watson’s skill in preventing scoring is more important than Pav’s skill in scoring. Sometimes, vice versa. With Tamin being so much better, offensively, than last year and BRE and Ward both increasing their scoring threat, having Watson out there isn’t the liability it was last year.

Pav’s “skill in scoring” is oversimplified. I mean everything he brings offensively with ball movement, attacking the paint, and shooting.

From TJ's comments, it sounds like they want him to get his via cuts to the basket and rebounds & put backs. I don't think his outside shot or his driving ability is where it needs to be yet, so that makes sense.

Match ups and game situation are going to be the main factors going forward with Pav and Watson seeing minutes. I like both guys as roll players off the bench. They're both just sophomores so I expect to see a lot of improvement over the next couple seasons. I do think Watson has a higher ceiling with his athleticism. He came in pretty young too didn't he?

He has been phenomenal defensively and just bringing energy plays. Would be great if he could get comfy on offense. Props to him for staying ready and stepping up in conference play

Do we know if Omaha is redshirting?

I don’t believe you can play in any games in BBall and still redshirt unless it is a medical redshirt. I think only football and wrestling allow redshirting with participation more than zero.
