Jimmy Butler said on a Bill Simmons podcast that he was coming to Ames until Wes Johnson transferred

Its is most recent one, it is titled 'Jimmy Butler'. He is actually talking about NBA players he doesn't like and Simmons is trying to get him to actually name somebody and he guesses Wes, because they played against each other in college, with Cuse vs Marquette and he says yes but not because of that reason. It is because Wes hosted him for a visit at ISU and told him they'd be part of great core (could've been Garrett, Johnson, Butler, Gilstrap, Brackins, Jamie V), and he was about to come here, but 2 days later Wes transerred and Jimmy said it ****** him off, because he told him all that stuff and knew he was leaving

Probably better for his career that he didn't. Mcdoormat can suck the wind out of any sail no matter how big and spectacular.

If I recall, he and Vander Beken were very much a package deal out of JUCO. I actually didn't think Butler even visited ISU, thought he just ended up visiting Marquette and committed/signed, while JVB came to ISU. The whole Wes Johnson thing very well could have been the reason Butler didn't make it here. Although I don't believe Gilstrap would have had another year to play. And Brackins declared early.

Some people really can't let go.
Can you blame them though?

Diante Garrett, Craig Brackins, Wesley Johnson, Justin Hamilton, and Mike Taylor (any others???) all played in the NBA. We had ridiculous talent on some of those teams. Look at how much Diante Garrett improved in just one season under Hoiberg. I think it's fair to look back on those McDermott teams and say they massively underachieved.

I was a new poster on this site back in those days, and back then there was a dislike button in addition to a like button. I posted in a thread about how terrible McDermott was doing given the talent level and asserted his players were afraid to play and make a mistake. I GOT KILLED with dislikes. Afterwards, Rashon Clark's girlfriend PM'd me and told me my thought was correct. That Rashon was afraid to even shoot the ball.

Do you happen to have the PM saved? That's legendary.

Rashon used to frequent the Flame and Skewer, and let's just say it didn't look like had just one girlfriend.

Pretty sure his girlfriend used to post on CF as TheFutureMrsClark or something. Or am I thinking of another player's girlfriend?

Fun fact: young AMarner32 got Rahshon's autograph on the back of a Hickory Park menu. Awkwardly stood next to his table while his waitress asked for their order.

I had my story wrong. I always thought we decided against butler because we had Gilstrap in the fold and the coaches like Gilstrap. I was wrong

DJ Kent has been waiting eight years to say "I told ya so." I hope all is relieved.
