To be clear, PSU cancelled the conference, not JoePa.

Scott Paterno is apparently trying to setup an off campus press conference so JoePa can answer questions. If true, it tells me that PSU is really screwing this up badly and not Paterno.

Scott also says Joe will be on the sidelines for the Nebraska game and for the foreseeable future and that they will fight this to the end.

Tell that to the 21 year old that was raped. He turned a blind eye to all of this. Hell Paterno even allowed him on campus AND allowed him to bring little boys to practice as late as 2007. Sorry but get Paterno out, he knew everything, I can about guarantee that.

"Paterno even allowed him on campus"? So if this situation were closer to home then CPR or Freddy are the gate cops who allow people onto ISU campus? No way. Paterno was notified of the one incident and passed it on to his superior as an allegation of wrong-doing. At that point it was only an allegation. While he may have wrongfully assumed it was dealt with and dismissed, the buck does not stop with him.

IF there is anything to be learned from this it is that: 1)people abuse their power 2)procedures don't always work 3)be careful who you trust your kids with 4)if you see somebody being inappropriate with a kid just kick the **** out of them on the spot

Yet the story came out because an assistant principal of the victims notified the authorities. Why didn't that assistant principal simply notify the principal?

The answer is that child rape rises above notifying a superior. You notify a superior when a booster gives recruits gifts or for catching kids with steroids or for sexual harassment.

For child rape you CALL THE ****ING COPS.

Two completely different points. An actual VICTIM told the assistant principal, at which point you have to tell the police. In Paterno's case, somebody came to him and made an accusation against somebody else about something he might have seen. For all Paterno knew the Grad Assistant might have held a grudge against the guy for something and was making it up (of course this isn't the case as we know now). But to your last point, if the Grad Assistant believes he saw child rape then it was HE who should have called the cops. HE KNEW IT WAS CHILD RAPE, Paterno only knew it was an accusation.

I hate to see Joe Paterno go down like this, but if he witnessed something and didn't report it to the proper authorities, he kind of brought this on himself.

So can the GA be charged then ? Just curious.

I believe this was in reference to the satterfield and everson rape incident. While I do not consider the crime to be in the same ballpark, the decision to keep the investigation 'in-house' is equally disturbing.

You are correct. This one really bothered me. ANY official of the university having knowledge of a possible sexual assault of a student (or a child in the univerity's care) should go to the authorities. Joe Pa no exception. Student are in your care, all students, not just your fb players.
I still think Kirk was wrong with this deal.... as for Joe Pa he is done.... Now is Kirk the first phone call PSU makes, I think so.

"Hey, boss. This is JoePa. I don't know if this is legit or not, but one of my assistants just told me he saw a former coach molesting young boys in the shower. So now you know, and I have fulfilled my obligation here. And in case you were wondering, I have absolutely no interest in hearing what comes of this."

Scott Paterno: Worst spokesman ever

"Guys, I've said all I have to say."

Take two steps away. Take two steps back.

"Joe Paterno is still the coach at Penn State."

(Do this for 10 more minutes and you've got the formula down.)

I didn't realize that the GA was actually part of the coaching staff. Kills my previous theory. He should have stepped in.

Where is Sandusky's wife in all this? We hear a lot about the staff and such but what about the woman living with him? She didn't notice his proclivity for young boys over some 20-30 years? The string of young boys he's always got hanging around? It's one thing if you have kids the same age, but when yours are grown and gone and you still have 10 year olds on sleepovers and staying with him in hotels?
Speaking of which, where the heck is she while he's molesting the boys in the basement? Upstairs having dinner with their kids? Sleeping in their bed? I can't believe she didn't have an inkling that something was very, very wrong.

And the mother who noticed her son's hair was wet and discovered Sanduksy made him shower with him - instead of reporting it, she asks if their bodies were naked when they touched and makes Sandusky promise not to do it again ?!?!? That's your course of action? That doesn't set off a million and a half red flags? So many failures in this, it's incredible.

Also, how freaked out are you if you are one of the SIX kids this family adopted? Even if he didn't do anything to any of them, that's got to **** with your head a ton.

I have the same questions, and I don't understand how his wife didn't have these figured out. Also, why didn't the parents of the victims think anything was happening. Some of the incidents happened late at night, which tells me that the parents must have really trusted Sandusky.
