I'll be the opinion of dissent. Just because somebody in the media talks with excitement about the story - doesn't mean they gleefully await the Big XII's demise. There is excitement about a genuine topic. The 5000 plus posts in the Texas A&M thread aren't Cyclone fans wanting the Big 12 to dissolve - but about people following the story. The woe is me routine gets old.

Most of the people in that thread are talking about possible replacements for A&M. Local media seems to focus on the Big XII breaking up and ISU ending up in a non-BCS conference.

Either you haven't heard the likes of marty tourrettes or andy garman, or you are playing dumb. Either way, there are idiots out there who take great joy in the thought of ISU dropping down to Division 1AA and think that is the proper place for us. If you haven't heard them, you need to get more informed before deciding to take that stance.

That's an option. Many here were doing the same last summer. I'm just saying the Rodney Dangerfield act is tiresome.

its not just that there are 2 BCS schools, its that they are from different BCS conferences. Iowa is the only state that has a Big 12 and a Big 10 team.

How many other states have 2 or more schools in different BCS conferences? Can't be that many.

Iowa (Big 10) and ISU (Big 12)
Clemson (ACC) and South Carolina (SEC)
Kentucky (SEC) and Louisville (BE)
Texas/Tech/Baylor (Big 12) and A&M* (SEC)*
Penn State (Big 10) and Pitt (BE)
Ohio State (Big 10) and Cinci (BE)
Florida (SEC) and Florida State/Miami (ACC)

Edit: OK, I guess there are more than I originally thought.

How much do they talk about these things?

I don't listen, so I honestly don't know. Are these things they cover, or things that predominate their coverage?

They talk about them a few days leading up to and during and then maybe one day after.

pretty limited material

I agree to a point. Some have a problem even with the notion of anything negative being reported or discussed about ISU...even if it is relevant. However, as a previous poster mentioned, Marty Terrill takes it to another level and it has really turned me off on his show.

How is it an act when it is in response to what media in central Iowa are actually saying? It is disrespectful. Not sure where you're coming from other than to just play the other side for whatever strange reason.

Just because some radio personality is of the opinion ISU is in trouble if the Big 12 ends, does not mean they are cheering for the demise of the Cyclones, it is only their opinion. I don't really understand why it is the duty of people whose job it is to have opinions, i.e. talk radio guys, to promote ISU and say everything is going to be allright, dont worry ISU is going to be in a great position, etc. It is not their job to do that, it is their job to have an opinion and it is not always going to match up with an ISU fans opinion. I think maybe some people on air don't understand the implications for ISU and the state if they were to go to a lesser conference but what do you expect from talk radio?

You have to know what you are getting with Terrill, I know his gimmick and I am fine with it, although after awhile it does get annoying when he won't give things a rest. He just uses hot topics to get callers. That is why he likes talking about the demise of the big 12 and how ISU is screwed cause it gets people to call in. Just like with the trophy deal, he was ranting and raving how he though it was ridiculous that people didn't like it because he thought it was great, B.S. he didn't like it, he was just trying to get callers. That is what he does.

I get it...but it only works to a certain level...and if carefully managed. If overdone (which he does too often WITHOUT a sidekick to reign him in), it just makes for bad, negative radio by a host that appears to have little creditablity or for that matter, soul, for many of us who try to be a regular listener but continue to get frustrated as the same old schtick is rolled out.

When you're hungery for LOCAL sportstalk, your options are limited.

I'm kind of ignorant to the whole Ames sports talk radio situation. Don't CW and Arnaud have a show? Just listen to them.

You could also download podcasts like the CycloneFanatic one and listen to it in your car.
