could be mistaken, but didn't one of the coaches say he was one of the better defenders on the team? if that is true, i sure hope he sticks around. need some better defense in the future.
as someone else mentioned, just because he didn't see minutes this year, as a freshman, does not mean he isn't a quality player. we had a lot of experience ahead of him. plus, he probably had the worst possible year a freshman can have personally with all the tragedy in his family. that undoubtedly took a huge toll on him both physically and emotionally.
I have high hopes for everyone. Hopes do not = results. I don't think anyone needs to transfer, but it's obvious Okoro and Naz need to improve this offseason significantly if they want to see the floor. Not saying it isn't possible, but to say someone will be great but never saw a meaningful minute during conference play requires a significant amount of faith.
True freshman, no less. I believe if Bubu had been eligible Okoro would have been redshirting along with SDW and we wouldn't be having this discussion.

We were discussing Okoro. Apparently I should have been more careful distinguishing who I was talking about this time. :wink:
How would Bubu affect Okoro's RS? Bubu is a PG and Okoro is a 2/3. Naz maybe, but not Okoro.
So we have a 25% chance and the geographical location of the school is of no concern.
If he visits, then I would say we have at least a 25% chance or greater. If he doesn't then obviously we have 0% chance.
There are a lot of factors besides just location, which won't necessarily work in our favor, but we have other things that can play to our advantage.
With Bubu out who was Fred's plan B when Korie sat? Will. I believe Fred thought he needed more tall guard depth ready to step in if Will had to do this a lot, especially on defense. Also, Bubu played a lot of time in the previous season as essentially a 2 guard with Royce handling point duties. With his height he also doesn't exclusively defend the point position either. Bubu is not strictly a point guard.
Okoro and Long sat behind upperclassmen, no surprise or shame in that. It seems like some people are just waiting to weed these guys out when the alternatives are ... Hogue and a couple guys who've never played a minute of college ball. At this point in time, I have no more confidence in those guys than I do Long and Okoro and anyone who does is just guessing.
Or he could tie up a scholarship for 4 years and never contribute meaningful minutes. I don't really think Fred would let that happen though, he seems to value having open roster spots which allow him to compete for these big time transfers.
I remember saying Railey was never going to amount to anything and it would be dumb to waste a redshirt year on him and tie up a scholarship for another year. A lot of posters on here disagreed, but apparently Fred didn't as he was gone at the end of the year.
I agree for the most part, but seeing them not even get a few minutes in games leads me to believe they were not ready for that level of competition which supports my previous statement.
