The wall the runs N and S where the tunnel comes out of, looks like filled in or are filling in rock behind that wall. Why are they doing that instead of fill dirt?

If you are talking about the retaining wall that runs along the West side of the Jake, they put down crushed gravel to help with drainage and to reduce expansion/contraction damage due to freezing.

It appears that the NW exterior walkway is being poured, but it is a bit hard to tell for sure due to the camera angle.

Does anyone know if they plan to irrigate the hillsides? I captured this screenshot of a tractor making what looks like shallow trenches.

Here I underlined 3 of them:

I don't think they are for drainage because they're not deep enough and they don't run down the slope.

I just looked at the weather forecast. Rain all day tomorrow, colder Friday, rain a couple days next week—and the OV’s coming on the 4th. No wonder they’re trying to make hay while the sun shines today!

Thank you.

Not saying I’m right, but I thought that a month or so ago—before they shifted the orientation of the camera—we all saw that end of the tunnel be extended, then capped.

As I recall, it had to be, to accommodate the new outer ramp up to the concourse. Which will go right over the part you circled.

Of course, I wasn’t paying that much attention at the time, because there was so much else going on. Feel free to correct me if I’m mistaken.
I did a search of the photo archives located here to check on this:
From what I can tell, that is the original tunnel. Here is a photo from January 27th showing the tunnel end with the original retaining walls still attached (the retaining walls were painted unlike the google picture I posted earlier).

This February 11th shows the tunnel with the north retaining wall and two sections of the tunnel gone.

And here are a couple more photos that bring us into May:

They poured an extension to the south retaining wall on March 3 and attached that black square cap to the end of the retaining wall on April 5 (you can see it inside the red circle above).

Here are a few shots from today. I especially like the one in which you can see all the way through to the end zone seating.

The more pictures I see of the vertical concrete slabs, the more I dislike them. It sure seems like they could have came up with a design that doesn't look like so "medieval". The SEZ has the same concept but no gaps in the concrete slabs which looks much cleaner.

The SEZ has the same slabs but also has the flag poles mounted that fly the Big XII team flags. So I expect that the NEZ will do the same and you won't even notice the embrasure/ crenels / battlements.

Similar, but not quite the same... having said that, I'm fine with both although I do think it's odd they didn't use the same style. I'm sure there's a reason for that?

Could it be that the panels in the north end zone extend higher than the south end zone? From these pictures it looks like the panels in the south end zone are level with the railing and I think the panels in the north end zone go up higher than a railing would be.
