I'll give you credit for being realistic about your Hawkeyes imo. I'm far from an expert but do watch some of your games, and agree that I think Jewell could be a good one. He was a great high school athlete that probably should have got a few more offers, and did pretty good for a rs freshman. I think you really got a good one in Boyle and assuming he'll red shirt, but I'm not going to be shocked if he gets there and is too good to redshirt, especially if there's an injury ahead of him. For Boyle's sake it's probably best if Ferentz is gone in the next couple of years, but of course as a Clone fan I hope he stays. Let's just say both of our coaches are justifiably on the hotseat.
Agree with everything here. I'm excited about Boyle. Glad he stuck with the Hawks, but it is a bit confusing to try to picture how Ferentz is going to use him. They've made it very clear he's a QB and he's going to be a QB. That intrigues me. I'm close with a coach of one of the Des Moines area schools who coached against Boyle and he was very impressed with him. Other than playing H.S. ball in Iowa there is absolutely nothing you can criticize him about in regards to his performance up to this point. He's done everything a kid could possibly do at his level of football. He completely dominated football in this state. I just hope Ferentz doesn't figure out a way to screw it up because it's hard to picture an athlete like him playing QB for Iowa. Brad Banks worked out. Hopefully Ferentz hasn't given up on that style completely. It's just been so long since we've seen that from an Iowa QB that it's hard for me to imagine.
Valley's head football coach Gary Swenson was the running backs coach for the East squad in this past US Army All American Bowl. He had the opportunity to see all of the Army All Americans practice and he had some nice things to say about Boyle. Here's some of his quotes:
Five of the six (quarterbacks) in the game were from California (or Florida) and they've played so much outdoor, year-round 7-on-7 and their concepts and fundamentals are so good," Swenson said."That's the difference between the Iowa kids at that position and those kids. They never flush, they stay in the pocket and their eyes are always downfield. They know right where to go with the ball."
Swenson has made no secret of the fact he's a fan of Iowa recruit Ryan Boyle, the Dowling Catholic quarterback Valley had to deal with throughout the past four seasons.
"I think Boyle could've fit right in on the roster with the other quarterbacks," Swenson said of a collection of decorated signal callers bound for USC, Oregon, Ohio State, Missouri and Arizona State.
"Physically, and from a leadership standpoint and an arm-strength standpoint, Ryan Boyle would've been right there with any of them, I think."
